Older DC waking LO

So DS2 almost can't sleep at all during the day because DS1 is SO FREAKING LOUD!

I either spend all day holding DS2 while he nurses/fusses/and lightly sleeps in my arms or sling... and DS1 is whining and cranky because I can't do anything with him because I'm holding DS2

Or... I spend all day trying to get DS2 to sleep in the bedroom and then reminding DS1 to be quiet. Then DS1 is even more upset and screaming everytime I remind him to be quiet so we can have time together! He'll start yelling at me that he's going to wake the baby up and that he wants the baby to cry all day

as soon as DS1 is in bed DS2 takes a LONG DEEP sleep which is at 7.... then he's waking up at 10 when I WANT TO GO TO BED!!!

WTH!?!?!?!

DH and I built a baby hammock hoping that DS2 could sleep a little better amid the noise, but DS1 just wants to play in it and starts screaming when I try to put DS2 in it. *shakes head* why did we try that???

I went and bought a humidifier for white noise today . . . hopefully that will help

any other suggestions?

(might xpost this to night time parenting)

Baby sleeps during the day in the swing in his room, with a sound machine on mountain stream sounds pretty loud. Then, I try to involve the 2 yr old in quiet play: art, books, even a video if I'm desperate. Baby doesn't take the same long naps that he takes when the 2yr old isn't here (toddler monster is in daycare full time) but he sleeps.
I'm sure all this will change when I go back to work and baby starts daycare in a week.

i hear this. and it is tough. in our case, baby #2 seems to be a light sleeper. he even keeps his eyes partially open; it's like he's trying to take it all in. only at night does he really sleep sleep, with eyes shut tight, etc. baby #1 is actually 3.5 years old, not in preschool yet, and loud as heck all day long. i am always telling her to be quiet. sometimes it works better than others. it's better for me when someone else can entertain her for awhile, such as my mother or my husband. but that doesn't happen every day. the 3.5 year old doesn't mean any harm, but she's also not as careful as she could be either. and everyone tells me that a baby should be able to sleep through whatever noise.... and it's just not necessarily true. very frustrating.
