I thought this was interesting: For Some Parents, Shouting Is the New Spanking
(You might need to set up an account - which is free - to see the article).
Basically says that frustrated parents who are devoted in every way still commonly (88%) lose it and yell at their kids. However no distinction was made between raising one's voice, like "Please stop throwing things down the stairs" (said loudly) vs. a full out yelling rage. I think there is a significant difference between the two.
The comments are interesting. One of the most recommended comments is from a grandfather who advocates spanking, despite the article noting the negative effects of spanking.
Many commenters were throwing up their hands and at a loss with how better to handle certain situations, though - like needing to go to an important appointment, and having to encourage a defiant little one to come along without any delay. Parenting is tough!
