Question on cloth diapering 'accessories'

So I went to see a woman today who has a showroom and went through all the different options with her.
I've pretty much decided on the "Gro Baby" ones. Thats a cover with the organic cotton liner that you just remove and toss in the wash. I like this product ALOT because I can use it start to finish. There is a a package that she sells which includes the covers and liners. However seperate from that she was indicating that I should get a large bag liner thing for a wicker basket to toss the soiled ones in. Can't I just toss them in the laundry tub in the laundry room? Also, what does everyone use to travel with? What do you throw your dirty CD's in?

Thanks

I love gro baby too! I toss them in a zippered diaper bag because I don't wash every day. I don't see why just tossing them in the washing machine would be bad, it would work fine if you plan on washing every day or don't have a load to do between diaper loads.

When I travel I use pampers.

We use an empty cat litter bucket. It has a lid, a handle to carry it into the laundry, and fits nicely in our bathroom. We use disposables when we're away from the house.

btw- the one CD accessory that we couldn't live without is a diaper sprayer.

I throw my dirty diapers at the bucket in the corner. If they get smelly before there are enough for a load I move them to the bucket in the closet.

When I'm out of the house I just put the dirties in a small wet-bag. Originally I used shopping bags and they did work, but I got tired of the plastic getting snagged on zippers. I got my wet bags at the camping store, they're technically supposed to be dry bags.

When I travel I have a larger wet bag instead of a diaper pail.

I do have a basic pail liner (made by Natural Baby Co - same as Gro Baby) but that is about the only accessory I have. I have a basic trash can in which I use the liner and toss it in the wash along with the diapers. I like the liner b/c it keeps the potential smell of the diapers contained to the pail liner. Also, if there's residual poop, it keeps it from getting on the trash can as well. I'm not interested in potentially cleaning poop off the inside of the trash can.

I would eventually like to get a basic wetbag for away from home trips, but haven't gotten around to it.

We just use a plastic tub for our dirty dipes. I just recently got a wet bag for the diaper bag but don't find it much better than a plastic grocery bag.

I just have a regular trash can with a lid that I put a wet bag in. We keep it in the laundry room. We have small wet bags for when we are out of the house.

I CD my first with out specific diaper pail or liners or wet bags or diaper sprayers. We had cloth wipes and that was it.. I'll admit this time I do plan on having 2 smaller wet bags 2 pail liners and a diaper sprayer. Buts its not a necessity. I jsut want them.

We use a regular diaper pail, no liner.

My wetbag is boiled wool, its amazing.

When we travel, which isn't often, we take our cloth. The baby breaks out if he spends 20 minutes in a sposie.

Thanks for all the great info ladies!

For travel, the Gro Babies have these new biodegradible liners now. So when we travel I will just take those with me and will only have to worry about the plastic pants needing to stay clean.

The lady told me that whatever container I use for the pail liner, NOT to use a lid. She said that causes amonia in the urine and causes horrible odor.

I would like to find a small bucket or pail that I can keep under the wash tub in the laundry room, one that I can't see

I agree about the lid thing. We keep our lid on loosely only to ward off the dogs. So far that has worked for the dogs, but our big boxer dog likes to try to help me spray off the diaper

I haven't found odor to be much of a problem with a lid. I use a trash can with a foot operated lid and it doesn't close all the way b/c of the pail liner so it isn't a tight lid. Maybe that makes a difference, I don't know.

I would recommend keeping it as simple as possible at first. You'll quickly know if you would like another product (sprayer, pail liner, etc) and it may not be worth it to buy it all in the beginning. You may end up spending more money than you need to spend.

We keep ours on the porch (second story of an apartment building)! I bring it in at night though, but the smells have never bothered me since keeping it out there. It must be the fresh air! When it starts snowing though, I may have to bring it in.
