How does intro of solids affect EC?

So, I really thought with this baby, my second, I would wait longer to start solids than the usual 6 months. But she is REALLY interested now (at 5 months), so it'll be remarkable if I hold out till 6 months! I will be doing/trying baby-led weaning.

I was just taking a load of diapers (washing them less and less often these days due to EC success!) and thinking about how cloth diapering changes so much once solids are in and poop gets more, well, solid - and I started wondering how EC pottying changes with solids.

At first, it was awesome. One poop a day, in the morning, and then no worries until tomorrow.

Now... yeah....at least the solid poop doesn't seem to squish out of the diaper so easily.

But she is still mostly doing one a day. Just now it's random when it happens.

For mamas who are used to one poop every 3-4 days, I guess solids would suck.

OH! And pee... melons = baby : but they mean more peeing, so melons, for us, are a morning food.

I'm sure it's different for everyone, but for my dd, the first poop threw her for a LOOP! She'd been pooping in the pot reliably for a while, but just stood there with this SHOCKED look on her face as her first "solids" poop came out. Pretty funny (ew). After that we had VERY few poop misses 'cause it was so much easier for her to tell they were coming or something. But like I said, it's different for each kid I guess.

With us, solids were good, it meant fewer poops and she had even fewer poop misses after starting solids.

for us ec has seemed to eliminate the poop problems I had w/ my older 3. Wants starting solids they all became severely constipate and would regularly hold it until several weeks with tons of problems and pain. DD got the same really solid really hard poops and will hold it a bit but since we offer frequently and she is in the correct position she doesn't hold it as often eliminating constipation issues.
As far as that since we introduced solids I haven't really noticed any other issues. She went into undies just before we introduced solids and we haven't had to backtrack at all. If anything she is doing a lot better.
She was almost 9 months when we started solids.

Thanks everyone!

Starting solids helped a lot for us because it seems to put her on a more reliable schedule and because her cues became much easier to read.

Yeah, starting solids for us has meant that her regular poop time is 3 AM. And she doesn't go back down for a while afterwards.

I hope you don't have the same experience.

Solids made life much easier here too - at first his poops became very infrequent (once a week or so, didn't seem to bother him) so that was a bit of a challenge but at least there wasn't much to miss. Now he's totally reliable going every 2-3 days the first potty chance he gets in the morning.

We've only had one poop miss since starting solids about 2 months ago and that was when MIL was visiting and our schedule got all messed up, I became lax about the potty. It was the first time he ever cried about having a dirty diaper and when MIL brought him to me to clean him up, he went over to his potty and started banging it around. The message was pretty obvious! It was the first time we'd ever had such direct communication and it was so cool. Made me not so upset about the miss because it was an opportunity to see just how clearly he "gets it." MIL was over the moon she was so impressed!

Oh, that's so ccol, JessieBird! Not only was he showing that he "got it" but that he thinks about it AFTER -retrospective. That's a helluva insight into a baby's brain.

Yeah, now if only he'd bang the potty before he had to go! We still rely entirely on timing and good luck in our house. There will be a parade in town the day he signals me to go!

DD is almost 7 months and is acting ready. She was ready except for sitting up for a while and all of a sudden got it in the past week and is getting sturdier by the day. DH has been joking with her, "You can have solid foods when you stop pooping in diapers." Neither of us is looking forward to clean nasties out of our cloth diapers. This is encouraging to read. I'm beginning to think that there's no way we could be reliably miss-free until her poop is more solid.
