My husband emptied the cats' litter box today and tonight when I let the dog in, she had cat litter all over her nose, smelled like cat poop, and was licking her chops. This is totally disgusting. I'm really looking forward to releasing the cats outside where they belong after they are spayed. But what do I do about the litter box/poop eating until then? And will the dumb dog get sick?

Well, you have to make sure the dog can't get to the box.
Cat poop in litter is like Kitty Roca, chocolate-chip poopies, heaven on earth to dogs. Gross to us, delish to them. And they way to stop it is to make sure the dog can't get to it. Otherwise you're basically s*** outta luck! Couldn't resist the near pun!

Dogs do love cat poop! Heck, when dd was a baby, dh was changing her diaper. He laid it on the floor because he was going to put the poo in the toilet. Our sweet, beautiful dog Maggie came into the room and quickly snatched the poo right out of the diaper. I haven't looked at her the same since!

I had the same child poo problem when she was a puppy. It was awful! She would get into the garbage while I wasn't home and strew it everywhere. And my nursing pads. And underpants out of the laundry. We do keep the litter box behind a closed door, but what about disposing of the litter? We have 15 acres and we were dumping the litter box into our burn pile and burning it. But the dog would go and dig and roll in and eat the burned remains. She is such an idiot. Are we going to have to dig a hole for the used litter?
