Raw milk prices

I've been checking out local raw milk vendors in our area. It seems the going rate is $8.75/gallon. Is that about normal? I know it's gonna vary throughout the country-I'm just looking for a ballpark. I'm not sure if we're convinced enough of the benefits to take on that kind of price hike.

Actually, it's more like $11/gal. I missed the weekly delivery fee (the farm's at least an hour away).

When I bought raw milk, it was $8 a gallon, but I had to pick up. So add gas - it was close to an hour away... yeah. But so worth it.

(I'm in Ohio)

I'm in Oregon and pay $9/gallon plus $2 delivery fee, the farm is more than an hour away, so $11.

We paid $5/gal for our cow share, but they got shut down by the Dept of Agriculture.

We pay $10 a gallon. But my sister found some near her for $2 a gallon!! We are in RI (milk's in MA) and she is in NH.

I pay $5.31 a gallon via my cow-share. Its about a 20 minute drive there, but DH tends to pick it up on his way home from school and so its not really out of the way.

price tends to reflect distance from the nearest metropolitan market. my state is a poor southern one, and the base price of milk is 5 bucks a gallon 45 minutes to an hour away. six bucks a gallon when i drive 45 minutes to meet a farmer who also drives equal distance to me. but you also have to figure in not just gas, but oil and tires and snacks and beverages (my kids go with me). when you are having oneofthoseweeks! and end up buying the snacks and bev, the cost of milk goes up. i reduce my milk costs by making yogurt. organic yogurt is 3.79 a quart here.

I pay $16/gallon, but can get it at WF. If I were to get it farm direct, it's more like $22/gallon IIRC

Mine is over $15 a gallon delivered.

Wow, ok. So the high price is pretty normal. I wonder if our landlord would let us buy a cow.....

In Austin, TX we paid only $6.50/gal and drove 3 minutes to our pick-up location. Here in Taos, we can't find a local source. The best we've done is get a tip on a farm over the border (1 hour) in CO that sells for $10/gal.

We're getting goats.

$5 a gallon here for organic $2.50 for a half gallon etc. etc. or for non organic you can get it for $4 a gallon. I can not believe it is so expensive everywhere else!!!!!

$4/gallon...straight from the cow that morning!

$6.50ish a gallon. Our supply is about 5 minutes away.

$6 on farm in vt, no delivery allowed in our state. it's all over the place if you ask around though so not an issue.

We pay $35.00 a month for a gallon a week.

Anyone know of raw milk around southern NH or northern Ma?

We just started being able to find raw milk. At the co-op, it was $7.75 for a HALF GALLON of whole raw milk. At a local natural foods market, it (same exact brand) was $8.99 for a HALF GALLON of whole raw milk. Skim raw milk was cheaper and has been on sale for half-price. I didn't really see the point in skim raw milk, but I wanted to try it anyway. I bought it and used it. It went sour really quick. We're not big milk drinkers, though.
