My doctor has recomended that I get my flu shot (because I am pregnant)...I'm on the fence about it b/c I have heard of ppl getting their shot and then end up getting the flu anyway (b/c of the shot or just b/c they caught it)....Are there any pregnant mamas out there that aren't getting the shot? Any that have? I'm not sure what to do??

Check out some super special cdc math:
Table 10- page 31- http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr52/nvsr52_03.pdf 257 people died of influenza 2001- and again in this report the numbers are staggeringly low in 2003: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5253a4.htm with no additional information as to previous condition of the children- that's a far far cry from the 30-40K/yr the CDC tends to report: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis...ds/vis-flu.pdf So I'm wondering if their magic math is that 36K people a year internationally die from flu?

actually they say about 250,000 (or more) people internationally die of the flu every year. The 36,000 number comes from lumping in pneumonia and other ILI (influenza like illnesses). here is some insight into the magic 36,000 number.

I'm pregnant and no way will I get any of the flu shots. First of all, I am allergic to eggs. And it is not like I die or break out in some horrible rash from eating them. I am 30 years old and have always had eczema but never knew I was allergic to eggs until last year when I got food allergy tested. My point is you are not suppose to get the flu shot if you are allegic to eggs but what if you are allergic (like me) and don't know it?
Secondly, I just don't trust it. Most of the shots have thimerosal in it. Also, from what I've heard - a substitute shot was tested not the actual shot you will receive.
People will try to convenience you that you are CRAZY if you don't get it but I just trust my gut, take probiotics, Vit D, and high quality pre-natal and go about my business. I work in a large office building too!
I think it is taking care of yourself and mind over matter, honestly.
Trust your gut!

Not getting it. Already had the flu this year, and I never get it anyway. I'm still alive. Our bodies are meant to handle getting sick. We're not meant to handle synthetic chemicals.

I wouldn't get it - pregnant or not. WAY too risky to get it. I'll take my chances with the flu - which we have all had many times and survived. Plus, I have gone through MANY years of not getting the flu without the "protection" of the flu shot. I agree with a pp - wash your hands, take your vitamins, get enough sleep, etc.
