Sunday morning about 1 am I woke up with contractions or what I thought was contractions. I wasnt sure so I got up and came out to the livingroom to time them for a while. At 2:30 am I realized it was really it and woke DH up. I had 3 contractions after I woke him up and realized the intensity of them and called the midwife. They were 7-8 minutes apart and about 45 seconds long. The midwife said to call her back when they got closer. 1/2 hour later they were 5 minutes apart and lasting a minute. We called the midwife back and called our Doula to come. I tried to handle the contractions on my own for a while before getting in the birth pool but they were getting really intense so we filled the birth pool. It helped take the edge off for a while but then it was like I got used to the water and it didnt do any good. So from about 3am til 5:30am i went back and forth from the shower to the tub. About 5:30 I started feeling nauseous and the contractions were every 2-3 minutes. I knew from child birth class that it meant I was pretty close to transition. I started to get a little worried cause the midwife wasnt here yet. At 5:45 the midwife arrived and checked me and I was at 9.5 cm and the bag of water was bulging. The doula got her a little after that. I labored for a bit more in the tub before the midwife suggested she break my water. I think she said she broke my water around 6:30. I had to get out of the birth tub to actually push because the baby's heartrate would drop a bit when I would push. I ended up pushing on a birth stool. She was born at 7:13am. I dont remember that it was that hard, I just remember saying over and over "I cant do this" . DH and my doula did a great job of reminding me I was almost done and i could do it.
Kianna was perfect at birth, Nothing wrong with her. Her Apgar score was 9 1 minute after birth and 10 5 minutes after birth. She was 7 pounds,2 ounces and 19.5 inches long.
I on the other hand started bleeding pretty bad and the midwife said there was no tearing on the outside at all. And i passed out once so they decided I better get in to the ER and see where the bleeding was coming from. That was harder on me then the labor. Having to get up 15 minutes after birth, get dressed and walk. I was really weak and I dont remember much on the ride to the hospital. Once we got there they took me straight up to OB. The Dr tried to repair the tears without numbing me or anything and I was in so much pain I could not hold still. So they decided the best choice was to give me a spinal block and put me to sleep and fix them. I had several tears on the inside and the dr said it took about 50 minutes to repair. Once I came out of recovery I was stuck to the bed for the next 6 hours because of the spinal block I was totally numb from the waist down. About 4pm they got me up and had me try to walk. I was able to walk but I had to be able to go to the bathroom before they would let me go home and i still didnt have enough feeling there to be able to go. So they cathed me since it had already been since 11am that I had went last. I was really worried I would have to be admitted and stay overnight but finally after lots of prayers I was able to go the bathroom on my own about 8pm.
By the time we were dismissed and all it was 9. I was never so glad to come home!! We had great nurses at the hospital though and i am really thankful for them! They made it alot easier on me to be there even though it wasnt how I wanted it to be.
The stitching and recovery has been the worst part of the whole experience. The birth was nothing, I would do it over again in a heartbeat but the tearing and recovery time I have now is definetly got me a little scared for next time.
