Vegetarian considering bone broth- is it worth it? - Page 3

We eat soup every single day. Actually we eat it twice a day! A small bowl as a first course with our big lunches and then a bigger bowl with some bread and butter for supper.

2.5 yo DS is getting sick soup, though, so I might have to branch out to get the broth into him!

When we got it out of a can, we would only eat soup every once in a while.

Now that I make my own from my own stock, my family is requesting it all the time. My daughter even just asked for my homemade chicken soup as her special birthday dinner !!!

It may sound weird to be serving it that much, but really it is in a totally different category than those other soups. Oh, and once you make it yourself you can never never go back!

And there really are so many different varieties that you can make with chicken stock.

I hope to do that someday, but my stock pot is just big enough to get about 3 quarts of finished broth, which I use in a day or two, so not there yet. I think my pot is 8 quart (maybe?)

What size pot do you guys (anyone reading) use BTW? I have 30 lbs beef bones in the freezer afraid I'll need a bigger pot before I start on beef broth!

Bump for a great thread and a question -

do any of the vegetarian mamas who tried bone broth last year have anything to share about it?

re: the question above about pot size - the bigger the better, that way you can make it less often, lol. I have a 22qt pot I like.

I was vegetarian for 17 years. I have been slowly weaning off (funny way to out it) of being grossed out mentally. I am now learning to listen to my body's desire for the meat/fish. Having a baby really tuned me into my cravings and what they mean. So, I just started making goat stock once a week with a bag of goat bones I get at my farmers market. It is incredible!!! I eat an Ayurvedic diet and have learned a lot about the different properties of the animals. Goat is one of the most balancing and its easily available where I live.
I love the way I feel so nourished afterwards. It's light to digest but completely filling. I use it as is, as a base for soups (asparagus/fennel is my fav) and also to cook rice.

If you have access to goat, I highly recommend trying it (especially in spring) instead of doing chicken & beef all the time.
