seasonal flu vac right before conception

I tried to find a thread on this with no luck. I got the seasonal flu shot on Sept. 22 and then conceived on Oct. 4. I'm a little worried b/c the form you have to fill out before you can get the vaccine asked if you planned on getting pregnant within the next month. I didn't really...but obviously did! Can some harm come from receiving the vaccine and conceiving so soon afterwards?

Realistically the chance is harm is lower at this point than the chance of something mal happening because you're stressed something might happen.

Was it the live flumist, or just the (dead virus) injection? I'm trying to figure the same thing out right now about the h1n1 flumist...they said I shouldn't TTC in the month following the dose.

But yeah...statistically, I think you're fine. Especially if it was the injection.

“Women who are trying to get pregnant should use the injection vaccine,” says Dr. Nicole Noyes, a reproductive endocrinologist at NYU Fertility Center. Most flu shots are made from a “killed” virus and therefore pose no health risk to you during conception or to your baby if you are pregnant.

Dr. Noyes explains that while these injection vaccines are harmless, a problem could arise if a woman uses the live vaccine that is administered via a nasal spray. This vaccine is made from a weakened live virus and poses more potential side effects and dangers to women who are trying to conceive or who are pregnant. “A live virus could knock out the nascent embryo,” she explains. “A lot of these things are all or none, which means that the body knocks out the embryos as a way of protecting it from the virus.”

Women who are planning a pregnancy, and have no pre-existing medical contraindications, can receive the live vaccine (nasal spray) up to one month before conceiving, or the inactivated vaccine (the flu shot) at any time before conceiving.

Even if you got the nasal just 12 das beforehand, there's no undoing anything. Try not to stress over what can't be undone.

Op~ in the TTC forum there is some discussion of this, and another person who is TTC just after getting the flumist. She said her OB, and the OBs of several others she's talked to, said it wasn't a real concern.

I think the previous poster is right. You're likely to be fine, and you shouldn't worry about it. You got pregnant 12 days later, but the baby didn't even implant until almost 20 days later. That's a LONG time for your body to have its needed immune response to this virus. I'd talk to your OB and see what she/he says, and then put these worries to rest.

Thank you for the replies and the quotes. That helps a lot. I meant to ask my OB at my last appt., but as usual I asked a few questions and he darted out of the room
