I'm contemplating taking the next step on our ec journey, and wondering whether it's best to go nakey bum at home or if it is ok to use training pants with my one year old. I would rather use training pants, but I wonder if he will think the training pants are just another cloth diaper and use them accordingly. Currently, he goes in the potty a few times a day but we have lots of misses and I think getting rid of the diapers has to help.

It's fine to use training pants. Some nakey time is good if you're up for it, but if you're more comfortable with trainers, it's a good way to go. I think my LO holds it better when she's wearing something vs. nakey anyway. You could always do nakey for a certain period of time, or for a certain number of misses, but only if you want to.

Why don't you try both and see what works better for you two?
We've been doing nakey bum at home--it's easier for me to clean misses off the wood floors than to do more laundry! It's getting colder now though, and DD's baby booty is getting cold. So it looks like we're going to have to try something new too.

i don't think it needs to be 100% either way. like hrsmom, my LO is actually less apt to have a miss when she's wearing something, so trainers actually facilitate fewer misses for us. but we still do nakey time, too, when i can be very attentive. and we do it more and more now that she's getting better and better about telling me when she has to go, and even taking herself (which she can't do when she's wearing a trainer).
so i'd try nakey time at least a little bit each day, but only when you can really provide baby your full attention. if you're going to be folding laundry or doing dishes or chatting on the phone, a trainer will probably help keep you from stressing out about misses.
