Help!!!!Thanksgiving coming up and need a gluten-free vegetarian main dish idea!!!

All the "fake meat" turkeys have wheat/gluten in them and I have celiac and my son is on a gluten-free diet for his autism. So, we can't do the tofurkey like we did last year. We will be having omnis at our table also, so I might consider doing a small turkey breast for them. Maybe. But for us, I'd like something--after all, I hafta be able to spread my cranberry sauce and (gf) cornbread stuffing covered with gravy all over it--been doing that for the last 32 years and ain't stopping now!

Anyone have any ideas?

Something with polenta, like a polenta lasagna.

I am not 100% up on my gluten-free restrictions, but would this work? Written by a friend of mine:

Vegetarian Three Sisters Stuffed Squash
Because Vegetarians Can to Be Thankful Too!
By Karen Sharif
A great dish that can be either a main course for vegetarians or a healthful side at Thanksgiving.
Vegetarian Three Sisters Stuffed Squash
Ingredients:
6 acorn squash
1 lb pole beans, removed from shell
2 lb frozen corn, thawed
3 cups prepared brown rice, bulgar, or lentils
1 cup shredded colby jack cheese
1 TBSP dried sage
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried tarragon
Optional ingredients: sunflower or pumpkin seeds, raisins or currants
Directions:
1.Preheat oven to 350. Halve acorn squash and place face down on an oiled cookie sheet. Cover and bake covered with foil for 40-45 minutes, until just beginning to get tender.
2.Combine remaining ingredients.
3.Place squash halves face up in a baking pan. Spoon mixture into squash, and bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes, until squash is tender and cheese is melted.
Serves 12-18.

ETA: it looks like, on second reading, that you're looking for a meat substitute to go with cornbread and cranberry sauce...and I have no clue about that, sorry!

Stuffed portabellos are tasty with thanksgiving fixings. Fried polenta would be good too (but not sure if it'd be the best choice with a cornbread stuffing).

Not remembering completely, but if a baked tofu or tempeh were gf something fancy in that vein (like from the millennium cookbook) would probably work as well.

what about dinner in a pumpkin. There are a lot of variations out there. We're trying one Sat w/ a blackbean and rice filling.

I don't have any recipes, but if you want something meat-like, you could make something with yuba (the skin from boiled soy milk). You can google for yuba recipes, here's one that I found:

http://www.vegan-food.net/recipe/1153/Buddha-s-Chicken/

In that particular recipe you would want to substitute tamari sauce for soy sauce as soy sauce has wheat in it.

ETA: Here's the wiki page on yuba:

Acorn squash

Add a sweet stuffing, my mom liked apples, walnuts, raisins and maple syrup.

I'm thinking of doing a stuffed squash (with a rice mixture, although maybe you could stuff it with your regular stuffing).

What about this Tofu Not-A-Turkey? (scroll down the page a bit for recipe). It calls for whole wheat bread, but it might be worth experimenting with gluten-free bread as a sub. I might do a trial run before the big day, just so it's not super disappointing if it bombs.

Oh, and if you're not vegan and want a faster option, what about Quorn Turk'y Roast? They're really tasty!

Actually it'll be an experiment... our first time on Halloween. but I'm planning on mixing cooked rice, black beans, diced tomatoes and seasonings (cumin and lime). It'll be a little southwestern like....Then putting them in the pumpkin and baking for 90 minutes. Most of the recipes I've seen involve hamburger but that's usually easy to eliminate.

This makes me so so happy! For some reason I didn't even think to look at the ingredients for the Quorn products. I assumed it was made with wheat! You made my day!!! We had this last year (before going GF) and LOVED it!
