Thoughts on Milk

Hello all

Just thought I'd get some feedback of your thoughts and perceptions of.....milk! I was brought up on the stuff (by the glassful - mom really encouraged it) - now I don't drink it so much on a regular basis but bake with it, have it in coffee etc. My toddler however loves his milk. Recently, at the store where I buy my EO's the woman who runs the place was going on about the negatives of milk - and how she would never give it to a child. She really raved about almond milk which I do like too however I recently noticed how sweet it is and the second ingredient is cane sugar!! Anyways, she basically emphasized the fact that milk is just mucous with additives (Vit D etc)

Just want to hear some perceptions on milk and if you give to your kids and/or consume yourself.

Thoughts on raw milk would be great too

Cheers

Here is an article from the Health section in last Monday's LA Times:

Sorry! I don't have time to figure out how to format it better.

At our house we all drink cow's milk and have not had any allergy or bad experiences. We drink raw goat's milk when we can get it from our farm delivery, but otherwise just drink organic 2%.

I will only drink raw milk. Pasturized is not a good idea.
If its raw and grassfed, it is full of real Vit. D
The calcium in processed milk is no longer viable, and does clog up the arteries. This is called plaque.
Processed is also just a liquid that is swimming with dead vitamins and minerals.
This is just one site that details milk very well. There are many others.

Oh, and.... Calves are nourished with Mucous?

Just my hurried thoughts....

I'm trying to think of the name of this great book on milk....something about the untold story I think....anyway...here are my thoughts based on much reading...
God made cow milk for cows.
He made human milk for humans...babies that is.

With that said, we still LOVE our dairy...we just don't consume much of it. I do believe it causes many many problems that most people don't even realize...sinus problems for example. When we do consume milk, we use raw, as at least it has nutrients. After all the pastuerization and homogenization is done with (sorry...probably bad spelling), the human body does not recognize what's left in order to digest it...so people do NOT really get calcium, etc. from milk (unless it's raw). For other products, we try to get raw cheese when we can or at least organic to avoid the hormones, etc. and occasionally get some organic icecream and sour cream...that sort of thing. But we mostly consume rice milk and almond milk for every day stuff. I'm not thrilled with some of the additives and have tried to make my own almond milk but haven't figured out how to make it seem less dry....maybe more water? Anyway, that's my thoughts.

Thank you! I have found the book (organicmom) at my local library and going to check it out. Apparently quite the black market here in BC getting a hold of raw milk! Will look into it though.
Cheers

I love milk. I drink milk from hormone and antibiotic free cows that is non-homogenized and low temp pasturized. I would prefer raw, can't afford it at the moment. Hopefully someday we'll have goats and cows. I would also happily feed my children (when I have them) raw goats milk (cheaper) but can't stand the taste (DP only likes and can digest goat's milk for drinking)

We don't drink milk, but we do consume other dairy products like sour cream, cheese, and whipping cream (organics). I hate that we are addicted to the stuff, but I just can't imagine chili or tacos w/o sour cream or pizza w/o cheese...

I use rice milk for baking, and DD gets rice milk with her oatmeal. I purchase raw cheese when I can.
When we do almond milk, I make it at home. There are brands of almond milk that are not sweetened.

I tried looking for raw milk and I couldn't find any. I felt like a druggie looking for my next hit. HA! I guess unless your really close with a farmer, they aren't going to sell it to you because its "illegal". I DID find raw cheese though through a CSA that I am in and they even do home delivery!!!!! If your in the west kootenays, message me and I'll send you the link.

I only buy organic, local, nonhomogenized whole milk. My dh loves milk and drinks tons of it. I don't, I've never been a big fan. My younger son is allergic so he doesn't get any dairy products at all. My older son can tolerate small amounts of milk (which sucks because loves it).
