Longies ? - Can you use Cashmere the same way you use wool?

I found some great cashmere sweaters at a thrift store today, can I felt them and use them like lamb's wool sweaters?

Thanks!

in theory, yes. Cashmere does not hold lanolin the same way wool does so it's not as leak resistant. I've made a few and they're fine for day use, but definitely not for night or nap. The other thing about cashmere is that it is much warmer than wool, which can be a good thing, but just something to keep in mind. I've also had a hard time keeping them up, but I think a drawstring or some elastic would fix that problem.

I have also double layered a cashmere sweater with a merino wool sweater(both lightweight) and used them that way.

did you put the cashmere on the inside?

Yep, it was a cream colored cashmere, the outer is the black merino wool. It is a warm pair of longies, but really, I live in ND, Ds needs warm.

MamaPixie, what a great idea! I'll have to try that sometime, we also get cold winters and my boys both hate blankets.

Mostly, I did it out of necessity, the black pair wasn't quite long enough to make longies out of just the sleeves. So I did the longies as an Aristocrat/Katrina pattern hybrid. And with the black merino being so thin, plus the thin cashmere, I wanted to double layer it. I messed up a bit on the ankle seam(mostly, that's my machine) But they turned out great otherwise.
