Finding VBAC friendly doctors?

Hi everyone! I'm hoping you might be able to help lead me in the right direction. My SIL is pregnant with her 2nd child and is really hoping for a vbac ~ my brother is in the military so they have a chance of moving roughly 2 to 3 weeks before delivery to SD. She is currently in Washington & has a great doctor and CNM who are very supportive of her decisions. However, if they do move she's not sure how to go about finding a VBAC friendly doctor & hospital so am trying to help her.

Any & all advice would be SO very appreciated

If the move would be that close to delivery, I would probably just stay in Washington until after the baby was born, but if that is not an option and they can't get the orders delayed, then I would start looking for providers in the potential new location right now. The local ICAN chapter is always a good place to start for recommendations. If she can't get recommendations, she could just start calling offices with questions like c-section rate, VBAC attempt rate, VBAC success rate and any special deadlines or restrictions on VBAC labor.

the ICAN website has a database of hospitals and whether they allow vbac or not, too. http://ican-online.org/vbac-ban-info so if there is no local chapter where she's going, she could see which hospitals in the area do them, and then call the L&D floor and ask which doctors do vbac. depending on the nurse who answers the phone they can be very helpful.

also the local tribe forum here, of course

Thanks you guys! I think I spent most of last night (while up w/ my newborn) reading as much as I could on the ican website lol There isn't a chapter in SD which I was bummed to see, but I found a lot of other helpful things & I appreciate your input as well.

They keep getting different answers as to whether they'll be able to stay until she delivers, so b/c things are so up in the air she's trying to prepare as best she can.

Don't hesitate to email the Regional Coordinator. She may have contacts in SD or could send a request out to women on the ICAN list to get some suggestions.
