I always thought that no, the live-virus flu vaccine in the nasal spray form can be "shed" and infect an unvaccinated person, but the flu vaccine injection is made from dead virus and cannot. However, we recently joined a homeschool co-op in which most of the families are anti-vax and they have a policy that if you get the flu vaccine in EITHER form, you have to keep your kids home for two weeks. I am on the fence about the flu vax anyway, but I don't understand how my cihld getting the flu *shot* could give other kids the flu - and I clarified with them that they do NOT mean just the FluMist, but the injection - they are saying that the flu shot in one person can make another person in close proximity get sick, and this makes no sense to me - can anyone explain?! Leaving the rest of the debate about the flu vax aside, do you think this is possible?

Absolutely not. My daughter is in treatment for leukemia, and I am 12 weeks pregnant, so we both had to get the DEAD, NON-SHEDDABLE shots.
I think they're victim of fear-mongering or bad data where someone somewhere said, "I got the flu after getting the flu shot" which is just impossible, let alone untrue.

*sigh* We're not vaxing, which makes it even more annoing to me when people claim wrong things. The chance of someone getting one of these vaxes making someone else sick in any way is so astronomically slim that it's a complete non-issue. This whole fear about "shedding the virus" is nuts. They need to do more research.

No the shot does not shed.....BUT post vaccination ones immune system is temporarily weakened which makes it more likely that the person who has just been vaccinated can come down with some other ILI (influenza like illness) which is why you always hear people say they got sick from the shot. No they didn't get the flu from the shot, but in their temporarily weakened state, they picked up another bug.

I want to point out that there was a time where i did get a flu shot (eww gag me) and I immediately spiked a 105 fever, got chills, aches, etc, and the exact same thing happened to my son, several years later. I dont care what you want to call it, but I did get "flu like symptoms" from the shot. (Probably because injecting your body with mercury, formeldahyde, aluminum, and all kinds of other junk reaks havoc on your immune system) Ill take the "regular flu" over that any day.
That aside, no, i do not believe you can shed the flu from the injectable vaccine. Thats just paranoia.

Anecdotally on these forums I've noticed that it seems some people get the flu shot and never get sick at all, and other people always get sick after the shot. I believe both.
However - that's all besides the point that the shot is the deadened virus and regardless of whether you get sick or not after getting the shot, you won't shed the flu virus from the shot. That's what the official wisdom is anyway, and I have no experience to say otherwise.
