I consume way more raw veggies through eating kimchi(fermented spicy veggies from Korea) than green smoothies. And kimchi is so yummy and nutritous with all the acidophilus. The only drawback of kimchi is a bit too salty. Vitamix was a bit of waste of money for me. Or is there anything else Vitamix can do better than other blenders? I did not have good result with dry chopping with Vitamix. I can only put one veggie at a time and after being chopped, it was hard to remove the veggies from the blade.
For us I use a lot of mixed baby greens when we began drinking them and worked up from a few leaves to a handful or two. I then moved onto spinach. I hate the flavor of romanie lettuce in my smoothie and I will try kale someday. I think for us starting with the spinach/field greens helped assimilate us to what flavors we do/don't like in our smothies and helped us get used to having the "green" part in there.
I would suggest starting small, work from spinach field greens in small portions (some is always better then none!) and then work up to more, when you are at more start adding a few small chunks of kale into the mix and slowly work up to more kale less of the other stuff.

Just came across this thread today. Yesterday I made a great smoothie and it included pear which so many said was not great. It was one of the best tasting ever. I always add the greens and the water together and blend until totally liquid. Then add the fruit and any extra's. Don't ever mix greens and dairy but thats just me. So anyways my smoothie yesterday was spinach, water, 1 bannana, pineapple chunks and 1/2 a pear. It was so good. I usually do a mix of berries and banana but really liked the pineapple pear combo.

I haven't read any replies.

I made my first ever green smoothie this week, and it was a hit.

I took a cup of yogurt (slightly over, actually), and blended it with 2 handfuls of baby spinach....the spinach was almost up to the top of the blender before blending.

Then, I added 2 cups of frozen berries, one banana, and about 2 tsp. of honey. Really basic, and really yummy. I plan to add some coconut oil or something later, but I haven't decided what yet.

...or kale chips. DD1 really likes kale chips. I like them, too...maybe I've finally found a solution to my potato chip cravings.
