I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum or maybe should be in breastfeeding beyond infancy.
I have a 3 yo whom I'd love to wean, but he shows no sign of wanting to stop. We've had a lot of emotional trauma over the past couple of years and I've let him nurse as long as he wants because of it.
Now, however I the following problem:
He only wants to nurse on one side and that breast is taking a lot of trauma. It is red, shiny, and flaking, but the nurse who looked at it said it isn't thrush. Even just a T-Shirt brushing against it is painful. The nurse said it is simply from him nursing.
I have pain when he latches on and while he nurses. It's excruciating because he grinds and pulls and twists. I've tried repositioning him and tried explaining that he has to be still if he wants to nurse, etc., but none of it is working.
I think it's time to wean but would welcome other suggestions if you have them.
