Are you having a midwife assisted birth? Does she have a list for you?
Are you talking about actual birth supplies, or just other stuff to have available at a homebirth..?

We got ours from Cascade health. http://www.1cascade.com/Category.aspx?CategoryID=1034 I was pretty pleased with what we got. It included a clean printer for the baby's footprints and a certificate to print them on. I also ordered crampbark from them.

I put my own together. I included drop pads (aka chux pads), goldenseal capsules, a baby hat, olive oil, bendy straws, a shower curtain from the dollar store (to protect the mattress), 4 giant trash bags, reusable hot/cold compress, a peri bottle, 6 older wash cloths, three older towels, a bottle of ky jelly, some comfry leaves and shepherds purse leaves (to make a peri-tea for my peri bottle), a bottle of witch hazel, and postpartum pads. I put it all together in a little box in my room so that I wouldn't have to go around looking for anything before/during/after the labor.

Here are a couple of web sites where you can buy birth kits - you could look at the list of "ingredients" and gather them yourself, although the kits tend to be less than $50.00 and some of the items might be a bit of trouble to get yourself. If you have a midwife attending you, she might have her own birth kit that she sells on one of these sites:

we put together our own last time, except dh was in charge of gathering the items during labor and grabbed whole boxes of everything instead of what was on my list --- made it useless for the midwife because she didn't want to have to go through everything to get what she needed, so she just used her own stuff.

This time, I'm buying her kit and making my own (assembling it right too) so that I can send her along with an extra one.

My midwife gave me a list and instructed me to buy a particular kit from a particular website. I ordered the kit and the rest is almost all assembled now.

The kit was from Cascade Healthcare Supplies and the rest of the stuff was 8-12 old baby blankets, heating pad, 4-5 old towels, 10 old washcloths, 2 bowls, plastic sheet to protect bed, plastic bags for laundry and trash, hydrogen peroxide, small unopened bottle of olive oil, tylenol, camera, food, water, hospital bag in case of transfer.

My midwife used to go through Cascade but now she goes through Radiant Belly because she said they are cheaper and better with customer service. I ordered my birth kit last week and it was here within three days (although I do live in the same area they are located).

We bought ours through http://www.mamagoddessbirthshop.com/

This is a Canadian source FWIW...there are also many midwives who have registered their kits through the site so you can actually take a look at the different kits mw recommend for their clients. They were great!
