I am taking a trip to see my family. We cloth diaper full time. I am wondering if you all fly with cloth. I drive with cloth, but am worried i won't have enough room in my diaper bag. its only two flights about 2 hours each with an hour layover.

any suggestions?
thanks a ton

We cloth diaper at home, and used to for driving trips, but my personal rule is that I won't fly poop around the country. So no, when we fly, we take disposables. :-)

Once DD was eating solids we still drove with a load of dirty diapers for a while, but one time the bag totally stunk up our hotel room. So we switched to disposables when we're away from home overnight, regardless of the mode of transportation. At home, it's 100% cloth.

I have flown with cloth, you may need to use a bigger bag for your carryon and pack some diapers in your suitcase. What do you do if you are out all day normally? That should work for travel day.

we just got back from a two week trip from the northwest to texas so the flying time was about 3-4 hours each way. we cloth diapered the whole time. dd is almost 3 months and still ebf, so her poops are still nothing much. we just had a larger diaper bag and packed diapers, stay dry liners, covers, changing pads, wipes bag, etc. and a wet bag for teh dirty diapers. it was no big deal! on the flight down i took her to the bathroom to changer her twice and was relieved to see that they do have fold down changing tables, but it was so cramped and she was so wiggly because she wasn't used to being changed on such a hard surface, that the changes took WAAAYYY longer than usual. on the flight back we changed her on dh and my laps and this worked much better (but i don't know if i would do this if she had smelly poop, it might be a bit too much for others around us...) we also just packed all of the extra prefolds and covers in her checked bag (lap babies, although they are allowed a diaper bag as a carry on they aren't allowed a checked bag, but dh and i packed together in one suitcase and then we used the other baggage allowance for her bulky stuff!) and it was a HUGE bag, but super light :-)
i found it to be just as easy as normal but we don't have any disposable supplies so i think it would have been more difficult for us to go out to buy disposable wipes, diapers, etc...
good luck!

We cloth diaper exclusively and continue to do so when we fly, camp, whatever. It's really not that big of a deal other than the space for packing, IMO.

With the stupid charge on baggage with certain airlines for me it would now depend if I could pack what cloth I needed without having to add a bag I'd ttoally bring it along but hnestly likely do a few sposies for use ON the plane and airport though I have done full cloth on planes before. If I had to grab an extra suitcase to do it no the cost would not be worth it.

thanks

thanks for your comment. I really do think I can cd while flying. I have a 4 year too, so dragging all our stuff through the airport by myself (my husband is in the army , so is often gone when i travel with the kids) I am going to just go for it.

We use disposables away from the house and especially on vacation. We have more blow outs with them, but I'd rather change an outfit than have to do laundry (laundry on vacation!?) or lug around wet dirty diapers everywhere.

I do buy disposibles for the plane- I find that it is much easier to fly with him in those, plus his CDs take up a lot of room in our carry-on. I'll use CDs when we get to our destination though.

how many diapers

How many cloth diapers would you take for an all day (5-6 hours in the air and in airports.) one baby 7 months old

I only cloth diaper.

I generally fly from ATL to SD CA and that's a loooong day. I have done this trip repeatedly with kids in CD and it has not been a problem.

I put 24 pf's and some covers in my luggage and then carry on about a dozen with 7th gen wipes. I am a diaper changing freak though.

It can be done!

This is my plan for traveling with my ds, who will be 5 mos old when we fly. Our travel day will be about 12 hours (flying+layovers).
My only reservation is the blowouts in sposies- I might rather have to deal with carrying dirty diapers than have to deal with changing a whole poopy outfit at an inoppertune time.

blow outs

my issue with disposables, is the poop blow outs. I was so happy when i realized we would have a lot less clothes to change with cloth. I love it. I think i really would rather travel with cloth.
