Relatively easy costume patterns/ideas for 9 month old?

I went to Joanne to check out the costume pattern selection, and was completely underwhelmed. My options were $16 for not-that-cute patterns, or a 99c sale McCalls pattern that looked WAY too complicated/labor-intensive and would have cost me a bazillion dollars in faux fur.

I got her a Carters' ladybug costume that is frickin' adorable but DH is giving me a bad time for not making a homemade one (yes, I already told him maybe HE should take up sewing if he's so emotionally invested!) so I promised I'd at least look at my options.

I have a sewing machine, no serger. Looking to spend like $20 or less for the pattern and all the components. She crawls like a madwoman, no walking just yet. I'm looking for something cute but relatively simple, because I don't even know if we'll be trick-or-treating, so I can't convince myself to invest that much time in something for pictures!

Any ideas, pattern links, etc.? Thanks in advance!

I'm doing this with ds. I like that it doesn't have anything on the head ('cause he won't tolerate that) & it's not puffy around the belly so I don't think it'll impede his crawling.

I made DS2 a little devil costume out of a large red men's sweatshirt I found at the thrift store for a couple bucks. I took everything apart at the seams and used the arms to make pants. I used the waist ribbing to make the tail and then the fabric from the body of the shirt to make a little hooded capelet w/horns. I'll put a red long sleeved onesie on underneath the capelet to complete the outfit.
