Sid the science kid all about flu vax today - Page 2

Check out a clip of Sid here: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...Emergency.aspx

At the bottom.

Disgusting. Nothing but pure promotion.

I haven't liked this show from the get-go (found it unbearably annoying) and I certainly won't let the kids watch it now.

We don't vax and my children saw that show. While I agree that they are shoving it down our throats I didn't mind them seeing it. It gives us the opportunity to explain that not all shows are fact. Just like all of the commercials promoting medication and vax's. It is a useful tool to help me teach my children about money and sorting through fact and fiction.

Ugh. This is so wrong. I hate Sid, so he's not allowed in our home. Looks like Sesame Street might be next to go.

I am fine with shows promoting healthy choices kids can make, but the line is crossed when it's a choice a kid him/herself can't make. A kid can choose to eat vegetables first, or to go run around instead of sit around. A kid isn't in the position to make a decision about vaccines. So now there are probably unvaxed kids afraid of death. If shows want to touch on vaxes, it needs to be along the lines of, "And many people believe this may be able to help prevent illness" rather than "THE way to not get sick is to get this shot! If you don't get it, you'll get sick and maybe even DIE!"

I'm gladder by the day we don't have cable. I think, when our daughter is born/older, we'll stick with DVDs of Bill Bye.

Wow. That just doesn't sit right with me. (And this coming from an Obama fan.)
I agree very much. I won't hold Obama responsible if this organization is doing this without his backing, but still. Any organization that promotes a political agenda needs to realize they can do more hard to that politician/platform than good.

I watched the entire episode. It really felt like propaganda to me!

Its on again right now! I cant stand Sid anyway, he always sounds like a really annoying stoned kid.
My son wanted to watch Caillou instead so we put on On demand.

I sure as hell don't remember Sesame Street having messages like this...
Um...what Sesame Street were you watching???

Sesame Street uses a combination of puppets, animation, and live actors to teach young children the fundamentals of reading (letter and word recognition) and arithmetic (numbers, addition and subtraction), as well as geometric forms, cognitive processes, and classification. Since the show's inception, other instructional goals have focused on basic life skills, such as how to cross the road safely and the importance of proper hygiene and healthy eating habits.

bleh, glad we missed that episode.

It came on here this morning - I didn't realize it would be on so often. I think I'm ready to ban PBS for awhile. It's too bad, too, b/c I normally like Sid. I missed the beginning so when I walked in my 4.5yo said, "Sid is about getting a shock! I mean, a shot!" He doesn't know what it is (well he didn't, before today, not that he *really* knows now anyway) but he's heard about it before a little bit.

I found it to be incredibly obnoxious propoganda. I didn't say much, as I'm waiting to hear what he says. The only thing I said was, "Some people think getting shots makes you healthy. We do other things to stay healthy. What do we do?" and he listed out things like eating healthy food, brushing our teeth, exercise, etc. I'm sure we'll be talking about shots more after that show.

I'll have to watch out for this episode, ugh. We don't usually watch Sid simply because he annoys me, but my DD has recently seen a few episodes and likes to watch it.

PBS has lots of good shows but also some questionable things. At least on Sesame Street when they present things like vaccines it's just one short clip of Elmo at the doctor or something, it's not heavily pushed for the entire hour. I think that presents an opportunity to discuss it with your child then move on, compared to this episode of Sid the Science Kid where they push it heavily the entire show...blah.

My DD likes to watch classic cartoons more than PBS lately. Things like Scooby Doo, Pink Panther, Tom and Jerry, Flintstones, Jetsons, etc.

OH WOW its on AGAIN right now! THIRD DAY IN A ROW?!!! WTF??? we had to change the channel AGAIN!
Yes My dd got very upset this morning when it came on and I changed it but we put in a special movie instead... I am thinking of also banning PBS in the am... Sad to see this aired so much!!

We missed it earlier this week, then it came on again this morning. Needless to say, we turned it off.

Yep. we saw the beginning this morning, AGAIN. My totally mainstream pro-vax MIL was over, and even she thought it was totally wrong.

LOL, I knew there would already be a thread on this...I couldn't wait to get on here and post something about it. My daughter is almost 2 so I don't think she understood it, but my 8 year old walked in the room and sat down for a min and I kinda watched him to see his reaction. After a few minutes he said "what is Sid talking about, that is NOT even true" (at the time they were talking about the way to keep healthy is by getting a shot) at least he knows the truth! I was more than a little annoyed....with the entire show

PLEASE have your son write, in his own words and handwriting with as little help as possible, a letter to the producers. A message from a child can sometimes have a much larger impact than one of many from adults.

as if i needed another reason to be creeped out by sid the science kid.

maybe they should worry about the problem in front of them and explain why gerald sounds like a 47 year old smoker.

If this thread is to remain open in this forum, discussion needs to remain focused on the vaccine specific issue rather than on this show itself. Discussions about tv shows are hosted in that forum.
