OMG it is getting better!!!!

Oh wow it is really getting better.

My LO has been waking at least 10 times a night since he was 6 months old, basically every hour. He is now almost 11 months and for the past 4 weeks there has been a definite, consistent trend towards less waking.

He now sleeps about 2.5-3.5 hours between wakings, with a few shorter chunks towards morning. Last night he slept for 4.5 hours in the middle of the night!!!

I know this improvement may not last but it was VERY helpful for me to have the experience of such an improvement after his other pattern. I had started to believe what the "sleep experts" say, that it would never change without intervention. Now I know that it CAN and WILL change in time, especially with gentle help in that direction.

BTW, I found Sleepless in America to be very helpful. We stopped doing a before bed bath and I think that made a difference. Also, he is now sleeping in his own twin size bed on the floor with a safety gate around it. I lay with him to nurse & sometimes sleep part of the night with him but mostly I am in the other room with DP. This seems to be a better way for all of us to sleep.

That is great!

Not to burst your bubble, but DS did this around 11 months for about a month, then went back to lots of wakings once molars started coming in.. So just wanted to warn you to be on the lookout!!

That is so wonderful!!!

Please can you give more details about what you did? I'm reading SIA now but haven't implemented anything.

So happy for you, long may it last!

Bath before bed can cause sleep problems? I've never heard this, but it sort of makes sense to me. We only bathe DD about twice a week and when we do she seems to wake more (we always bathe in the evening). Maybe I should change this routine.

Anyway not that it would matter right now, DD is 8 1/2 months and seems to be on a long sleep-strike- we've been having lots of wake-ups since 7 months. Before that she used to sleep AT LEAST 5 hours for her long stretch, sometimes 9 or 10 (or even 12!). Now if I get 5 hours out of her it's a miracle.. it's usually 2-3.

Here's to hoping this ends soon... I'm glad you see an end in sight!
