Liquid Hand Soap Recommendations?

We've been using SoftSoap Aloe Vera moisturizing hand soap for quite some time. I chose it because it doesn't have SLS. But now I see that it has DEA and I think I would like to avoid that as well.

Any recommendations for a hand soap that doesn't have questionable ingredients, but also doesn't cost a fortune? We wash our hands A LOT and I wish we could afford yummy organic stuff, but it's not going to happen.

What about homemade hand soap? We always have a big bottle of dr.Bronner's, but it is so watery! We need something thicker for dd to use easily.

TIA

Thats funny b/c I was going to say Dr. Bronner is always a good choice, not too expensive for the amount you get, but like you said...it is a little bit too watery. I prefer a thicker handsoap as well. Sorry I dont have any other suggestions. Good luck!!

you could possibly stir some cornstarch into the Bonners and see if that might thicken it a bit for you.
I've never tried cornstarch in that, but have used it in other "cosmetic" potions to thicken homemade concontions.

Might want to try a small bit first

i make completely natural liquid soap...pm me if you're interested.

If you add a couple tablespoons of Dr. Bronners to a foaming soap dispenser and then fill with water it works great. It isn't watery at all.

It may be a little more expensive but Dr Bronner makes a hand soap now, we love it, especially because we are washing our hands a zillion times a day with the baby

i use diluted dr.b. my kids don't have a problem using it.

I don't know if it's totally natural or not (though it is advertised as natural) but we use Method brand that you can get at Target. I use the foaming kind because I feel like hte kids get their hands cleaner with it. It lasts a really long time and they have eco friendly refill packs that are very low packaging.

We use Dr. Bronner's, but I don't like it too watery either - so a lot of times I don't dilute. Also, if you have a trader joe's - they have a castille soap that is very similar to Dr. B's peppermint version, for quite a bit less $

thats what we do too and you use so little soap. I buy the Dr Bronners real cheap by the gallon. For the dispensers that are not foaming I just add less water if I want it thicker.

I use this recipe to make liquid hand soap out of a bar of soap:
http://frugalgranola.blogspot.com/20...hand-soap.html

The recipe calls for glycerin, which I didn't want to buy special, so I just bought glycerin bar soap and it worked great! $1.50 to fill 4 liquid soap dispensers!

Wow, so many great responses! Thanks for all the great ideas.

I think I will get a foaming soap dispenser and try out some diluted Dr. Bronners in there. That seems to be the easiest and cheapest idea!

I also came across a recipe for homemade liquid soap (grate a bar of soap, melt in boiling water, cold and 'whip') but it seems a lot more work than adding a squirt of DrBs to some water in a dispenser!

I usually use Dr. B's in a foam dispenser, but recently tried the recipe where you grate the soap, boil, whip and added honey and ollve oil. It is soooooo wonderful- much more moisturizing than the Dr. B's.

I was going to write about the foamer and bronner's, too...
The H1N1 is ALIVE here...schools shut down across the peninsula for the past two weeks, now...so I've been adding Thieves Oil to my bronner's, lately.

MaggieMae, I can't wait to try your recipe! it sounds GREAT!
