What the Dr. told me today!!!

Hey I just wanted to share what I was told today by my pediatrician. I have to say I am in Germany so it might be the reason for this... We went to DS2 1st (and possibly his last!) checkup today! She asked me how often I was breastfeeding him and my answer was whenever he wanted to nurse! And she said I shouldn't nurse him more than every 3 hours!!!! I said sure and then I thought wow how weird! So, what am I suppose to do if after an hour and a half he wants to nurse... I wait until it's 3 hours after the last feeding I'm glad he is my second babe cause I could have been really disturb by that information... She also said that even if I supplement myself with vitamin D it would not be in my breastmilk!!!! So, she said I had to give him the supplement. She also look at me weird and kind of laugh when we said we didn't vaccinate!!! Oh well like I said I might not go back and in the spring we will be back in the US. I guess that's the way it is in Germany!!!

Good thing you know better! I had a 15 min argument/convo w/a dr who was trying to tell me that my 7 mo old needed to stop BF bc there was no benefit and needed formula. I gave him a piece of my mind, printed out info for him and left it w/his nurses w/a strongly worded letter attached, and never went back.

Def find a new dr.

I'm in the US and had a very similar experience... When DS was a couple weeks old he said I shouldn't nurse him more frequently than every 2 hours -- I should try to distract him or give him water in between! We ignored him on the water but sadly did try the "distraction" which just ended up in both of us sad & upset. He also got mad about our s/d vaxing and said we weren't doing what was best for our baby, and he insisted on the vitamin D as well!

We've since switched to a new dr.

Sorry you also had a bad experience, I hope you find a better dr soon!

We had a nurse in the states tells us the same thing about nursing frequency. She actually accused us of overfeeding! We totally ignored her advice. It's a cultural thing. I'm surprised it is in Germany as well!
