Best Glue to Repair Wooden Plan Toys Garage?

I'm looking for some advice on the best glue to use to repair the elevator on our Plan Toys Garage. I got it at a consignment shop for DS for Christmas, but must have bumped/dinged it in the car b/c when I went to show it to DH the other day, the elevator was in pieces. They're all there, thankfully, and easily reassembled. I just need the right glue.

We've had spotty luck with just plain wood glue in the past. Is this my best option, or do one of you crafty woodworkers know a better variety?

As long as there are no finishes on the wood to be glued, plain ol' wood glue is fine and non-toxic. It's so similar to regular white glue.

Our Plan Toys came apart also, in various places. At least part needed screws to repair. Good thing we did not get them new!
