i"m jumping in way late, but i have been super busy this past week, and am just catching up!!
i have an in home daycare that i run out of my home. we live right on the school district line , so my kids go to one school, a few of my school agers go to the other school, which actually closed because of swine flu last week, and i have a few younger ones here all day.
the number one way to cut down on the spread of germs is to make sure your provider is constantly washing her hands and the childrens hands. sanitizer works in a pinch, but is not as good as the real thing. the second thing, and i know this is hard when you have to go to work, but parents really need to keep their children home when they are ill. i cant tell you how many times i have had a child here only to find out the parents gave them tylenol in the a.m. to mask an illness. another important thing is for YOU to wash your hands before you pick up your child. i had a mom who was a nurse come straight fromwork and pick up her baby and hold him against her dirty scrubs, and couldnt figure out how he kept getting sick. it also has alot to do with your childs own immune system. we had a really bad viral thing come through here last week. my 2 kids and hubby got it, but i didnt and neither did any of my daycare kids, and its the first time either of my kids have been sick in 3 years.
illness does happen, and usually once one gets it, they alll do. but if its a constant thing, maybe you should talk to your provider. i'm by no means perfect, but know with all the illness thats out there this season, i have been working twice as hard trying to keep everything clean and sanitized.
