How does your LO sign potty?

Especially if you remember the first version, I thought it might be interesting for those watching for the baby sign.

Lina's version looks like she's trying to snap her fingers. Right now she uses it about 50% of the time while she's actually peeing.

Bianca sort of waves her little fist back and forth but she only does it about 5% of the time right now. I keep signing to her whether she pays attention or not.

none of mine have ever used that ASL sign for some reason. Elowyn opted to grab her crotch and try to pull the diaper off until she could yell "pee pee!" or else if i wasn't paying attention she'd run to the bathroom door and bang on it and yell till i came to let her in

Ellie will sometimes make a fist and stick her arm up. It looks a little like a "fight the power" gesture. Mostly she grunts or whines and gives me a pleading look. If we are at home, she crawls to the potty then screams when she gets there.

how old are these signing babies?

mine just turned 6mo, and has yet to give me any sign that I can recognize and I've decided to back off a bit when we aren't just chilling at home, its so disruptive to constantly try and offer her the potty when we're out and about and she SO RARELY goes.

At home I go on timing. We were doing SO GREAT for a while and now a lot, lot more misses. Oh well. I've wondered if she's trying to make a sound like a cue sound, also wave her hands in a funny way, b/c she's done those things while peeing. But then she's done them while not peeing (just playing) too.

This is what my daughter did when she started sigining. She probably didn't start signing to go to the potty until sometime around 15 months, though.

Lina has, in retrospect, been doing that sign since around her first birthday, but I've only noticed it for what it is now that she's nearly 14 months. The main reason for this thread is so hopefully you won't have a huge delay between your dd using a sign and you knowing that's what she's doing.

well phew, I am glad that other babies were a bunch older than 6m, even though of course I shouldn't be too busy w/ comparing.

Our baby started signing at 10 months. He didn't really do the potty sign much until a few days ago, and he's 13 months now. He was late doing this sign, I believe, because he couldn't figure out how to get his thumb in between his two fingers. Since he couldn't do it right, he decided not to do it at all, even though it was one of the first signs we introduced to him.

He's been doing more signs the past couple of months, and a few days ago he started doing the potty sign with confidence. He still doesn't put his thumb between his fingers. He has, it seems, resigned himself to the fact that he will simply make a fist and wave it back and forth.

oh- I am glad to have found this thread as I was just trying to learn "the"sign or any good sign for an infant for toilet. Maybe making a fist and waving it back and forth (without even using the thumb between the fingers) would be a good sign to teach for it.

We've been teaching DS sign language for a while, so he does the actual sign for toilet which is devastatingly cute He's 12 months.
