I am presently considering going back to school to become a Midwife. I have looked into the schooling aspect and realize the hardships my family will endure while I am in training. What I am looking for is what it will be like once I am working. I have two children 7yrs and 9mths. What I don't want to be doing is trading my family for those that I will be caring for.
I also am not sure whether I am done having children of my own.
I do have a very supportive partner who does not mind picking up the slack if I have to leave on short notice.
Is it common for midwives to carry just half of the yearly client load?
What does an average month look like?(I do realize that no two days will be the same but just give me an example)
I am so torn. I would love to be home with my own children but unfortunately that is not a possibility for us. So when I consider what I could do for a career that I would truly love I constantly come back to Midwifery. I believe it is a calling for me but I do not want to abandon my own children.
Any advice is definitely welcome.
Don't know if it matters but I am in Canada, so I don't have the option of just doing home births or birthing centers.
Thanks.
