Is this early labor?...I guess it was!!!!!

So I feel a little silly posting this, but I really have no clue what is going on!

I've been getting lots of BH contractions the last several weeks, and in the last several days, they have been getting stronger and stronger.
Saturday evening, after dinner, I started to feel sharp pains in my lower (very low) abdomen, but it went away when I went to bed, and again the same thing Sunday evening, and last evening.

Then, at 3h30 this morning, I was awaken by a sharp pain again. It felt like maybe I needed to have a bowel movement, which I did. Since then, I've been having the exact same kind of lower abdomen cramping I usually have with my period. It's still going on. I wouldn't call it painful, just a dull aching constant pain, with a few sharp twinges every once in a while.

I'm confused because I was under the impression that contractions came and went, and why would the pain only be very low in my abdomen??? It really does feel like I'm about to have my period!!!

So is this early labor? Is this completely unrelated? I will be calling my midwife later but now I guess I'm on a wait and see, but would really appreciate any imput from you ladies!

QUICK UPDATE!

I guess it was...I stayed crampy all day, but by evening we went out for dinner, I was feeling fine!
But then at 10h30, I woke up with stronger than usual contractions. We called the midwife who said yup, you might be in labor, I'll see you tomorrow morning.
Well less than no more than 30 minutes later, it got really intense, so we called her back and convince her to come over. She got here at abound midnight, checked me out...I was 5-6 cm dilated!
We made it to the hospital right on time...at 2h05 I got out of the car and at 3am I was holding this tiny little creature!

It was a fast, but incredibly intense labor....not sure I'd choose to do it that way, and it took untill now to wrap my head around it and come to terms with the power and intensity of it. But in the end, we finally got to meet our little one!!!

Oh, and for the fun part...she's a girl, her name is Florence, and she was just just over 7 pounds!

Wish I had a good answer for you: I've had periods of crampiness (like now) off an on for a few days; especially after I lost my mucous plug on Friday. But still no baby I hope this is it for you though!

It may or may not be. I'm no expert but I can share my past experience with you. With my first I woke up with period like cramping that lasted all morning. I called my Doctor to let him know he said that's labor. I went into full labor in a few hours and had my DS1 later that evening. I don't know if that helps but I would definitely call your midwife.

Good Luck and Best of Wishes!

I'm having cramping too that lasts for quite awhile and then goes away. I have none now but yesterday afternoon/evening it didn't let up. No baby yet! I do have a cat that's trying to lick my eye while I type though ... totally unrelated but had to share

I think it does sound like early labor!

In my past experience, early labor for me was menstrual-like cramping, exactly as if my period was about to start. There was no pattern, it just continued for a while, off and on. Then I remember I had a complete break of 24 hours of feeling nothing (and I remember feeling disappointed at the time) ... but then, suddenly the real thing started (this was the next day) and dd#2 was born 6 hours later!

If I were to feel menstrual-like cramping any of these days, I know that I would be feeling excited

As my mw said, those crampy feelings are an excellent sign that effacement, etc. is taking place. Your body is doing the preliminary work. Once that's taken care of, the real labor can begin.

I had period crampiness in the few days before having my daughter. Low back and abdomen cramps that were dull not sharp. I went in on Wed for midwife appt and wasn't dilated at all and only about 50-60% effaced and then went into full blown labor Friday night (really Sat. morn).

That low down feeling with sharpness sounds a lot like the cervix dilating to me, but that's just what came to mind. Funny how labor can be so different from person to person, and from birth to birth!

It's true it can be hard to define what was happening until afterward!! I totally get that, .

Anyway, congratulations on the birth of Florence and I wish you all the peace and happiness of snuggling and cuddling with her in this special time

I was just thinking how mad my mom would be if I said, "Hmm, is this labor...I guess it was because I'm holding a baby now!"

Congratulations Bena!
