What do/did you call nursing?

I've heard 'nursies', 'milkies', 'breast', etc, but can't seem to find one that I can say with a straight face to my DD (I am not big on cutesie talk, lol.)

So what do or did you call nursing when speaking with your LO?

It's been called "yummies" and "dupidas" in this house . No clue as to where DD came up with dupidas.

Our dd used to say 'mmm yum yum' for a feed , and it eventually ended up being num nums, and it's stuck with ds ...

When DD was a baby, I used to call it having some milk. I'd ask, "Do you want some milk?" Then when she was a toddler, she learned the word "nurse" and seemed to really like it, so I started calling it nursing. When DS came along, I always just called it nursing.

When DS started to talk he called it "nana". So that's what DD1 and DD2 learned to call it also. I had always just called it nursing until he decided it was called nana.

We called it nursing. Not into cutesie names or weird euphemisms here.

Mummy's milk. Should really have just called it "milk," as it should be the default ("unmarked form"), but we didn't.

I just call it milk. We have started calling cow's milk, just cow's milk in the house to make my milk the default milk for the baby.

We ended up with "boo boo"

"nurse nurse"

I tried out a bunch of different names for it, but it all sounded so weird so I would just ask DS if he wanted to "nurse". After a few months it turned into "nurse nurse".

Don't try to call it something that sounds weird to you...just do what comes naturally....it will fall into place eventually.

Me and my little sister nursed until 2-2 1/2 and we called it "ninna".

I guess I don't understand what would motivate someone to come up with another name for nursing.

I get if your child on her own comes up with a funny name (my kid said "nuff"). But why would a grown woman want to call nursing something else?

Same here. At almost three my daughter will still ask if she can nurse and she refers to my breasts as breasts.

I also do not understand why women don't want to say 'breasts'.

DD2 called it "eeezh eeezhie zhee." She would crawl up to me, at around a year old, and give me this knowing look and nod earnestly, and tell me that, like she thought she had to sell me on the idea.

We mostly just called it milk, although when the twins were babies DD1 started cooing at them, "do you want some milkies?" and "milkies" kind of stuck, so they called it that a lot, too.

Ds crawls up and says 'numnumnumnumnum'. I'm pretty sure it will eventually just turn into 'num nums'. No real reason why other than that's just what he calls it.

My ds says Boo's and now, "drink boo's" which sounds to everyone like "drink booze." He also says nyumnyumnyum halfway through nursing

We call it "bee!" as in "boobie!" DD's recently started calling it "bee-bee", and since I'm pregnant, people think she's saying "baby", which annoys me because I know she can say "baby" and have it sound like "baby", lol.

My son came up with these on his very own... At first, one side was “nummy” and the other was “num num.” Then both sides became “cuppa” (but usually said with lots of enthusiasm: “cuppa, cuppa, CUPPA!”). And, now we’re on to “mama’s milk” – but since he’s tandem nursing, he always identifies one side as “baby’s mama’s milk” and the other is “Henry’s mama’s milk.”

I have only ever called it nursing. The breasts are breasts, the nipples are nipples. The stuff that comes out is breastmilk. Frankly, one of the things that really turned me off to nursing before my DD was born was all of the "cutesy" names. They were all SO non-cute to me. As a PP said, I can totally see a child coming up with something more easy to pronounce or whatever... but I don't really understand adults giving it another name.

I have a friend whose HUSBAND calls it "Ninny-pie." She said this was a cultural thing(?) and was surprised I hadn't heard of it. Only in the south, I guess. shudder.

I did read a memoir once in which the author's son called it "nahssing" because that was how he pronounced it. I thought that was pretty cute, but just because kid-pronunciation is cute.

ETA: we have friends who always talked about "switching sides" or "letting baby have another side," and the babies took to calling it that. I think that's' pretty funny-- the H would always say, "Oh, honey, sounds like you need to give him some side." But the kids DID initiate it.
