HELP need chemical free alternatives to sterile lubricating jelly

Hi-
I am in the process of ordering my home birth kit but cannot find ANY Sterile lubricating jelly that does not contain harmful chemicals such as Parabens or propelyne glycol or that are not petroleum based.

Midwife says the lubricating jelly I find needs to be sterile.
Help! this is my first baby and I've stayed away from all chemicals during pregnancy and before so would hate to have to use these chemicals during the birth.

I would appreciate any suggestions from experienced mommas, midwives or doulas on a chemical free and sterile lubricating jelly or alternatives that will not harm me or baby.

Thanks!!

Hmm...my midwife just uses olive oil, but clearly that's not sterile.

You only need sterile jelly for vaginal exams after your water has broken, and I don't know of any sterile packets without those ingredients.

Does your kit include mineral oil? If yes it is probably sterile. If not you can buy and use that. Not sure if it is chemical free.

Thanks for your responses. I will forward my midwife the info on the emerita lubricating jelly and see what she says.
It sounds good so hopefully she will be ok with it.

Blessings to all!

That doesn't look like sterile packaging. And if you're going to do with something non-sterile, I really like Probe. Actually, your midwife can request a box of free samples from them, and those samples will come in individual packets that are sterile sealed. http://www.davryan.com/

As an alternative, you could just do without. I never use jelly when doing vaginal exams in the birth pool, and don't seem to have a problem. Even on dry land, I would guess that your own natural lubrication would be enough if the exam was done later in labor.

Thanks before reading this I already bought the firefly personal lubricating jelly which midwife said would be fine when I showed it to her...just need to make sure it is an unopen tube.
Thanks again ladies!!!

I love coconut oil. It's antifungal and antibacterial - and it smells good. Plus, if there needs to be an exam done in the water it makes it more pleasant. xo
