Things in TV shows that do/don't jive with your parenting style.

For example DO:
I've seen GD modeled more than once on the show "Yes, Dear." Same show, they discuss breastfeeding.

DON'T:
Gilmore Girls! I loved the show but there was an episode where they talked about how gross and inappropriate NIP was. One of the characters, Suki, had a HB with her first child and all the other characters talked about was how weird an idea it is...and the midwife was this burly, scary woman that was very not social and odd...not at all like the sweet midwives I've heard about on here. AND one of the characters scheduled her c/s because she was a control freak (even had a "come to Sherry's c/s" invite!) and when she went into labor the week before all her friends could say was, "Sherry screwed up."

I love Gilmore Girls. I remember all those scenes actually. I think they're just mocking stereotypes of all those things. (In other words it's my favorite show and I feel like they can do no wrong haha.) The only thing that ever irked me was when Rory was talking to Paris about not having sex yet and Lorelai says something like "I've got the good kid." when she hears them outside the door. However, I read somewhere that Lauren Graham got into it with the writers over not wanting to say that line but they still included it.

I'll cite Gilmore Girls as one of the few times I've seen a sling used on TV.

And they do have a second homebirth - Luke's sister - and name the baby Doula

i was just watching "cougar town" on hulu (don't judge me! there was no new glee this week!) and in the first few minutes a mom says (about her baby) "I can't believe I'm up at 5:30 because this idiot dropped his binky!"
seriously? i think i'm done watching that show now.

Well this am on Sid the science kid the issue was vaccinations and all about how they keep you healthy
in PBS defense when "Sid" asked his Mom about the vaxes she said 'your Dad and I believe its how we can help you stay healthy... " for some reason that didn't set my teeth on edge the way his G'ma did...
Sid's Gma is a nurse and talks ALL ABOUT why it is important and HOW MANY shots she's given...

Toddlers and Tiaras

I could explain why, but I really don't need any more points right now

Ugh, I *thought* that Modern Family was going to be hi-larious but as the weeks go on it seems like we the viewers are supposed to identify most with the "sensible blonde mother" and she drives me nuts! She's so damn mainstream that she didn't like her (snotty) DD dating a musician (and then this "alternative musician" shows up with total pretty-boy rockstar hair it made me want to vomit) and then last week she answered a question by asserting her belief in Time Outs. I'm done with that stupid show. The Middle...their personalities more match mine.

Any show on TLC with the exception of 18 Kids and Counting. Toddlers and Tiaras is just sick.

I love love love Toddlers and Tiaras! But... yeah the parenting style is NOTHING like my own.

i'm going to have to respectfully disagree here-
I feel like even that family is supposed to be wacky- remember the scheduling a time to shoot the son? I don't think we are supposed to identify with any of them. They are all ridiculous.

And I think she objected to the boyfriend because he's way older than her, not because he's a musician.

back to your regularly scheduled thread!

I love Lost but what is it w/that show and the characters leaving their kids?

First it was Claire, then Sun, WTH is going on?

That show totally confuses me but I still love it anyway.

And I can't think of a specific instance but I do notice a lot that on TV shows the kids are always MIA. I know it's bc of child actor laws and stuff, but the kids are always asleep or playing quietly offstage. Wish my kids would do that.....

Lost makes NO sense as it is...so I kind of leave it alone in that sense

And no one wants to work with child actors. Seriously, it's a thing. Most people don't want to work with kids or animals. They're unpredictable. I mean, you can't get a baby to sleep on cue and in the exact same position for each take. *shrugs* I think that's part of it.

Good. Another reason not to watch this show. I can't stand it! Luckily DD doesn't really care for it either.

It's too bad because I am all for portraying interracial families and diversity at school but this show is just redundant and insipid. And don't get me started on the whole microphone and performing for the camera thing. Blech.

I've never seen Gilmore Girls. I dislike how Nanny 911 and the other nanny show talk about letting children CIO and do not support co-sleeping. They make it look soooo bad when they are helping a family that has a child sleeping with the parents. I can't stand that.
