Meal Planning 101 for 2010 - any interest?

Thread Starter
I have done Meal Planning 101 threads in the past, but have stopped posting as interest levels decreased.

I personally need to get back on track with meal planning next year (the remainder of this year is pretty much a wash, what with all the holidays), so I am going to re-commit to doing it, and having a meal planning thread helps keep me accountable.

Anyone want to join me?

I cut my grocery bill SO MUCH by meal planning! Love it.

i'm willing to try!

my dh usually cooks, but he likes to go to the store many times during the week!! so we have no real clue what our grocery budget is; i just know that there's never anything to eat!

I'd be interested. We're hoping to purchase a freezer sometime in the next few months so hopefully that will help us plan ahead a bit and get some freezer meals done before baby arrives.

I just did this yesterday!

I put together dinner menus for two weeks and typed them up. I assigned meals to certain days and listed the major ingredients to simplify grocery shopping. I typed up and printed out the recipes.

All of this went into my homemaking binder.

My plan is to finish the project by coming up with a month's meals and recipes.

I also want to add in a listing of lunch and dinner menus. These I don't foresee being assigned a day, but just a list to refer to so that when we get burnt out we can jazz it up with new ideas.

I'm in! I have been trying to do this for so long on my own. I get started and then seem to fall off the wagon after a week or two.

I dream of planning our meals. And end up asking DH what he wants for dinner through email every day! (Then one of us usually stops on the way home from work.) it's terrible for our budget!

I'd love to actually use what's on sale to stock up and use as a base for our meals!

subbing!

I'd love to try, too. I find I tend to buy ingredients that we only need part of, and then the rest of the ingredient goes to waste. Or, I make a double batch of whatever it was we were having, and the leftovers go to waste. I need some serious help figuring out how to plan so that key ingredients aren't wasted, and so that we don't eat the same meal every night. Also, I have some extra bills to pay (who doesn't right now, right?) and the extra $$$ we'd save by not eating out so much would definitely help!

I seem to swing between hoarding food (it's not what it sounds) - 2.5 cabinets and a fridge full, to running out of everything. I periodically pantry challenge, but honestly I have weirdness when it comes to food. I must have a certain amount in the home to feel secure.

I meal plan, kind of. Maybe this could work.

Subbing- I usually do this but when we get sick it takes weeks or months back to planning the meals plus we start spending too much and wasting too much. Not good. We also have food allergies to deal with.

I really need to do this!

Is this going to be like the Meal Planning in Nutrition and Good Eating section or something different? Just curious. I barely remember to keep up over there.

I was going to say, come join us in the meal planning forum! It's been awfully quiet over there lately.
