Needing inspiration

I've got some great yarn. It's so beautiful I'm a little scared to use it. I don't want to waste it on something I don't like. I can't seem to find anything that's doing it for me.

I've got one skein of this on Galenas chunky (it's not as bright as in the pic), and 2 skeins of this on BFL Aran (this one is a lot brighter than the pic shows), about 2.75 skeins of this on Gaia Merino Sport, and this on Montana Targhee worsted (about 2 skeins) and Merino Rambouilett (about 1.5 skeins).

I'm foaming at the mouth to make something with the Mosaic Moon Coastal Sunset. I want to make something for myself but I just can't decide. At first I wanted to make something like a shrug but I think the brightness might be a bit much for me. Then I thought maybe a textured hat and scarf set but I don't really wear hats and scarves. It doesn't get that cold here. I keep trying to make a hat with the 3IG Grady but none of them come out looking the way I want. Hats don't really excite me, anyway. I've made hats for others and they don't get used.

Maybe I'm just getting bored with knitting since there seems to be such a limit on what can be made. I mean, how many hats, scarves, mittens and socks can one person use? I started out making soakers, shorts and longies. I loved making those but don't have any babes to make them for anymore. I don't have enough of any one colorway to make anything bigger like a sweater or afghan. I don't think I'd like making an afghan, anyway. Long projects get very tedious for me.

Bleh! It's like writer's block or something. I'm in a knitting rut!

how about a neck warmer? not so big and bulky as a scarf. Like this

that one looks crocheted but you could knit one as well. in fact, i'm lovin that yarn!!!!!

Thanks. I crochet, too, although not as well I as I knit (yet).

It's driving me nuts that I can't find anything to make. I can't buy any more yarn until I use up what I have. It used to be easy when I always made soakers and longies. I'd just buy whatever yarn I liked already knowing what it would be for. Now I keep buying yarn I like without having any real plans for it. I'm finding out I should probably have a pattern picked out first and then get the yarn for the patter. That seems like that would be easier.

do you belong to ravelry? I can browse on there for hours. You can also search for patterns based on yarn, yarn type, one skein, free patterns, etc. I ravelry! You can also look up the yarn & see what projects other people have done.

Also check out the one skein wonder type books for ideas. I usually browse through at my local library or lys when I'm there. How about Calorimetry for the galenas? I also saw a cute cabled purse that you could knit up.

Yes, I'm on Ravelry. I've searched and searched and searched patterns every which way I could think of. I checked other people's projects and they all seem to be mostly soakers, shorts and longies for cloth-diapered babies. Some have made sweaters but I don't have enough yarn for a big enough sweater for either of my boys.

I think I got that galenas in grady to make something for one of my guys. Now, for the life of me, I can't figure out what that might have been.

Here's a hat pattern I found that I like. I've found a few others that are similar. I like the seed stitch brim. I can't get the right gauge with any of my needles. I guess I knit tight because, for example, even with size 10 needles I get 14 stitches to 4 inches.

The second yarn you listed, especially, is beautiful! I'm just beginning so not good at advice, but on Ravelry, under the Patterns: Designers: Berreco Design Team, I was drooling over some of that stuff! So many cool options and stuff with style.

Yeah, that 2nd one is the one I'm really dying to use. I like it so much, though, that I'm afraid to use it. Here's a pattern for a hat and scarf set that's designed specifically for handpainted yarns. The picture on Ravelry with the hat looks better than just this scarf. I was thinking of doing that with the Coastal Sunset. The problem is that I have not worn a hat or scarf since I lived in Eastern NC. It just doesn't get that cold here, even when it snowed for a day last winter. I'm afraid the colorway is too bright and colorful for anything else, though. Would you wear that as a shrug or shawl?

I've never looked under the designers on the Patterns search page. I do like a lot of the Drops designs. Have you seen those? They have a lot of very pretty woman's clothing.

I've gone ahead and started that hat with the seed stitch brim using the Galenas. I've just tweaked the # of stitches a little so I can use the needles I have. Do y'all think that's something a man would wear?

I made the seed stitch brimmed hat with the galenas. I tried to make it square and flat at the top but that didn't work so, after ripping and redoing the top 5 or 6 times, I went back to the original pattern. I like it a lot!

I started to make the Textures Hat and Scarf (you can find it on Ravelry) using the Coastal Sunset on BFL but a hat and scarf just weren't doing it for me with that colorway. I decided to try a tank top when I came across this pattern; Pretty in Pink Tank. I hope using wool for a tank isn't strange. I also hope the colorway doesn't look too wild and crazy. I think I will really love it, though. I love the look of the tank and think the colorway would go nicely with denim.
