Would you be interested in having a pantry makeover?

If you were to hire someone to help you makeover your pantry and fridge, what would you want help with?

Would you also like to learn how to grocery shop more effectively for healthy, inexpensive foods? Would you be interested in going to a grocery store with a nutrition expert?

Would you also be interested in learning how to cook more healthfully?

Would you be willing to pay for this type of service? How much per hour?

Thanks!

I voted no, but I think you're asking the wrong audience here. The people who read this thread tend to be already concerned about health and nutrition and whole foods, and therefore might not need a pantry makeover. Honestly, I'm pretty proud of how I've "made over" my pantry little by little over the last 10+ years.

Anyway, that being said, I know people who'd probably like it. I think of my mom: she knows she doesn't eat healthily, knows she needs to change things, but doesn't know what to do. Top that with the fact that she's a working single who doesn't like to cook for just herself, and you get the drift! If you could come in and also give her hints about keeping convenience along with adding health and nutrition, that would be great.

I'm already doing what I can to eat healthily and frugally. I don't have the money to hire somebody to help me make over my pantry, and honestly it would probably irk me if somebody tried. I would NOT want to be told that lowfat milk is healthier than whole milk, that I should be eating more fruits and grains (I do best on lower carbs) or any other "conventional nutritional wisdom" that I disagree with. I've put a lot of research into nutrition and what I think is best for my family, and it doesn't always match up with what "the experts" are saying.

But I'm sure there ARE plenty of people who don't know how to cook and are clueless about reading labels. I've met many of them.

You might want to try posting a similar poll on a more mainstream parenting site. Too many MDCers have already made these changes without paid help (although I'm sure there are still many MDCers who have JUST found this forum who would like the help.)

I wouldn't, but I have a friend who I could imagine paying for help from someone to do this. I don't know how much she would pay though.

I echo everything that staceychev said. I'm sure that are lots of Moms eating the SAD that would love to learn more, but the majority of the crowd on these forums have already done the research & modified their kitchens to reflect healthful eating & many of us are doing it frugally. I think there are lots of families that think that they can't afford to eat more healthfully so that makes me think that it would be of value to teach them how to eat better on a budget, however hiring someone might be cost prohibitive.

No, for the same reasons given above. Plus, nobody touches my stockpile. Not even dh. My system is all coded and in Excel and it works well.

Hehe...I guess I'm preaching to the choir!

I'd say that in general, by looking in most of my friend's pantries, they could use a makeover. Whether they want one, or would pay for one, is another question. Heck, my pantry could use a makeover this time of year!

I am pretty passionate about healthy, whole-foods nutrition for families and I'm looking into a certification that would allow me to teach classes on family nutrition as well as to do coaching. Pantry makeovers, grocery shopping and healthy cooking lessons. I think there are lots of people who don't realize how some easy changes could make a huge difference in their health. And budget.

But you all know that.
