my sixteen month old sick nurser

I'm sure this is not a big deal. But my little one just got her first cold and she just so happens to be working on some major teeth at the same time.

On friday she threw up when we were sleeping (all over us I might add) and then from then until today she refused to eat almost all solid food.

Well if I thought teething brought on some extra nursing sessions!! She started asking for "milk" about 15 times a day. Which I was happy to oblige since she did not have any solids what so ever.

But I was just wondering if this was a common attribute in sick nursers?

It's great that you are still nursing, otherwise she might not get in any nutrients and could even become dehydrated. I would definitely continue to nurse on demand.

DS was a near-constant nurser while teething. And he also liked to nurse a lot while ill. Sounds normal to me.

Mine is either fighting something off or teething or... SOMETHING but a few days in the past week, he's nursed almost non-stop ALL DAY LONG. It's crazy how much he's nursing. I think my nipples are going to go on strike LOL

My kids would go back to 'newborn nursing' as I call it as they were almost constantly on the breast when ill or teething - perfectly normal and getting all the good things they need to keep them going through the tough times.

My twin 16 month old's are doing the same right now as they fight off a cold. I'm sure the comfort they get from it is worth just as much as the nutrition when they're not feeling well.

It is totally normal for my dd to refuse nearly all solid food when she is sick or teething. It's times like those when I'm really thankful that we're still nursing. I don't have to worry about dehydration or that she's starving herself.
