never wake a sleeping baby . . .

This is just odd, but if it happens again I'd like to know if there's something I should do different.

I got home from work around 4:30, to time it so I was home right when DS woke up for a nursing session (he's 4 months, easily distracted, nurses way better right when waking)

He wakes screaming and yelling (a bit unusual, but happens occasionally, I think from a bad dream) I calm him down but it takes a while and nurse him, and he falls back asleep at 530.

he's STILL asleep (its almost 8pm)

we usually have a 'bedtime' for him around 7 (sometimes as late as 830, depending on how wired he is, or how late his last nap was)

am I doomed - will he be up at 4am and *awake* for good reason since he got so much sleep? should I wake him now and play w/ him for two hours before I go to bed at 10pm?

he did have his shots yesterday - so he may be processing that a bit and a bit tired? He had his normal 4 hours of naps today (4 1 hr naps although its sometimes with a two hour nap, just not today)

I really can't bring myself to wake him up.

There's just no way to tell what's going to happen.

I have noticed w/my kiddos that some days they are just more tired than others, and if your lo is in pain/discomfort from his shots he may just need to sleep.

I have experienced what you are describing sooo many times and sometimes they have woken up and kept me up late, others they haven't. So who knows?

Hope you get a good night's sleep!

heh, so he woke up at 9, I nursed him hoping he'd fall back asleep, he *almost* did, but then fell asleep right during a letdown and choked a bit, which woke him totally up! We figured better to have him awake now than at 2am, so we played w/ him until 10ish, and dh got him to sleep at 1030, but had a bed transfer failure, I tried to nurse to sleep but no dice. So DH bounced him again and brought him in and just kept him on his chest for a while.

what was nice, is I went to bed around 1030, slept like a rock I guess and at 11 when DH came in w/ DS didn't wake up, and DS was on top of DH both sleeping until around 1am, when DS was stirring - so DH woke me to nurse him, but I don't remember it at all! and then ds didn't wake again until 5am. So when I woke this morning I felt like I hadn't woken since 1030 (and I actually really though I hadn't! I was all, OMG! DS totally slept for 7 hours w/out nursing!)

I usually get one 3 hour stretch (10:30-1:30am) sometimes its four hours, and then from then on its 2 hours or sometimes even 1 hour as it gets close to 5 or 6 am. So it was kind of nice to have a four hour stretch from 1 to 5 am for once, I never have that! Plus I don't even think I woke up really at 1am since I don't remember.

feeling pretty refreshed today
