Sure!

We're reading Bunnicula by James Howe right now, in keeping with Halloween and all. We're also in the middle of Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara.

How does a thread like this work? Do we just list what we are reading aloud this week?

We just finished a great book- The Cat Who Went to Heaven by Elizabeth Coatsworth.

Beautiful book, takes place in Japan, lots of wonderful stories about the Buddha.

I'm not sure what we'll do next.

I'm reading May Bird, Warrior Princess to 6.5 year old DD. It's the third in a series. We've really been enjoying them.

I'm reading the second Boxcar Children book (Surprise Island) to 3.5 year old DS.

Just finished Mountain Born - I cried my eyes out. Kids seemed ok -

Just started A Year With Miss Agnes. Kids love that it's a child narrating.

aimee, when theodore is ready for longer stories, i'd highly recommend "my father's dragon" series for him (3 short books). my son absolutely LOVES them!!!

Oh, I second the My Father's Dragon books! Even my ten-year-old enjoyed it, and it's a good quick read.

My daughter is starting a farming main lesson block, and I'm looking for a good read-aloud. But not Farmer Boy. Someone suggested Sarah Plain and Tall, but I'm thinking of giving that to her for independent reading.

My 8 yo and I are reading Patience, Princess Catherine and Farmer Boy together.

My 7 yo and I were reading The Once and Future King, but it's hard reading aloud for me so I found it on CD. We are now reading The Lightning Thief by Riordan and it is awesome. I really like it and I keep finding ds curled up reading it when I'm not in the room. It's one of the first kids chapter books for awhile I've been totally enthralled with. We read 100 pages yesterday alone, we just couldn't put it down.

I am also reading Charlotte's Web to my 5 yo and they are all listening to book 1 of A Series of Unfortunate Events.

My husband has been reading Children of the Lamp to DS, and I have been reading Junie B Jones books to him. We were sharing one book and each reading chapters on different nights, but then we weren't enjoying the books. We decided to read different books, and DS doesn't seem to mind.

The Lightning Thief is on our to read list.

kittywitty, the Percy Jackson books on tape are really good as well! I had some sort of deal with AudibleKids this summer and got all of them. We like books on tape in the car (it cuts down on the fighting... a little) and they were really well done.

Our current reads aloud books are:

Peter and the Shadow Thieves by Dave Barry (Daddy reads this after dinner or at bedtime)
Viking Tales by Jennie Hall (downloaded onto my Sony Reader)
Stories of King Arthur's Knights Told to the Children by Mary MacGregor (LibriVox audiobook)

It isn't too hard to guess that I have boys, is it?
I didn't even think about getting them as audiobooks. I have such funning reading them (even aloud), and I can not concentrate on books on tape. I might get the audiobooks for the kids so I can read the book to myself.

I decided our next read-alouds! Right now, we're reading Little Witch, which was one of my faves as a kid. It's only 100 pages so we should be able to knock it out by Halloween.

Then we're doing Charlotte's Web. It his my need for a farm book and it was Nicholas's turn to have a book aimed towards him. With three kids doing school, I try to alternate the read alouds to hit each kid's interests, but still need to choose stuff that holds the other kids. It's not been too hard though. When we read The Westing Game, even the then-5 seemed to like it.

We're currently reading Enid Blyton's "Faraway Tree" series.

We have a bit of trouble finding books that appeal both to my 8yo and 5yo but they absolutely love our bedtime reading together. One solution we have found recently is for 8yo to read to 5yo the books of her choice and then I come in and read an agreed upon book.
Last night we started Pippi Longstocking which was 5yo's request but 8yo went along with it (he is a sweetie and likes to keep the peace) 8yo ended up laughing through the entire first chapter.
We are on book 12 of A Series of Unfortunate Events which just keeps getting creepier and creepier. Both kids are riveted by this series and claim it hasn't lead to bad dreams... Some in the series,we have listened to in the car on cd and others we have read. Tim Curry does a fantastic job as all of the voices.

We are reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I honestly can't believe how much she gets out of the Harry Potter series. I was a little hesitant on reading it because of some of the dark content, but she is just analyzing the heck out of it, and talks about it all the time. So I'm sold. How else would I get this kid to bed? As soon as I say "Harry Potter time", she's in the bathroom brushing her teeth

That's our bedtime read aloud. We're reading "Cartoon History of the Universe, Vol 1", Grimm's Fairy Tales, and Maid of the North for "school" time. We also take a Catwings book with us in the car in case we have some time to kill. But we've burned through all the ones our library carries, so I may have to invest some $ in the series; DD really likes it a lot.
