Curious about cramping....

So...I'm having a lot of cramping...period style in my lower back and also occasionally in my lower abdomen. I'm 36w2d and sort of just thought this was a "body gearing up" type of thing...but then all the women in my life who've had babies are wishing me baby blessings...saying "good luck, he sounds like he wants to come meet his sister soon!" - and that usually wouldn't give me much pause, but I never felt feelings like this with Avery...not until I was in early labor anyway.

I know that I can be in "early labor" for many many days or even a few weeks...so I don't think he's going come shooting out of me any time soon...but I wonder:

What is your experience with period like cramps in late pregnancy? When did you get them...what did it mean for you.

It's frustrating to try and gage what any of this means, the body is such a wonderful thing, it knows just what to do...but every pregnancy is different, so it needs to do different things! I didn't experience this type of cramping until I was very close to delivering Avery...but that doesn't mean that "normal" for THIS pregnancy isn't to have this type of cramping for weeks before birth...right? Hmmmmm.

Note: I also had three or four real live contractions yesterday which werent SUPER painful...but definitely caused me to rock around and sort of think "what thaaaa"...I've been having cramping like this in my lower back especially for the last few days, since Saturday night, and my cervix is doing interesting things....what do you ladies think?

IME, period type cramps equal early labor.

THat's what I thought. Oh well...I would really rather keep him in for a while longer yet...only being 36w3d, I'm pretty confident that a bit more time wouldn't hurt. His big sister was only 7lbs15oz...and he doesn't feel much bigger...so I'd like to fatten him up a bit more before he comes...but these period style cramps keep coming and going all day off and on since Saturday night...hhhrmm.

Thanks for the input kidzaplenty...I appreciate your experience-a-plenty!!

Yeah yeah, I'm a dork, but I love your nic!

ha... i was just coming to ask about this! I am 35.5-34.5 weeks and have spent the past 10-12 hours with pretty annoying "first day of af"ish cramps.. i am not super concerned about labour being super imminent but hope this doesn't go on for another month+ straight...

^Man, that's my hope. I can wait as long as I need to, obviously I don't have much choice ...but I'd rather not have this for another 3-4 weeks, you know? My DD came at 41+1 and I'd rather have a babe on that end of things, I'd rather "After Guess Date" than too much before...but I also REALLY don't want to feel this way for a month longer...ugh ugh ugh.

When I was pregnant with ds, every one of my BH cxns felt like period cramps. Not surprisingly, labor was also horrifically crampy (as opposed to the bad-gas-pain kind of labor i had with dd). So maybe that's all it is... But if its new, it's probably yet another sign of your body gearing up and getting ready... Ya know, one of those signs that could mean labor will start tomorrow or a month from now. Comforting, right? lol.

I'm in pretty much the same boat, except I'm only 33w... But since my previous two pregnancies ended at 37 and 38 weeks, I'm hoping that i'll deliver at about the same point. You have that "dd wasn't fully cooked at 37 weeks" kind of thing on your side, which prolly buys you a lil more patience than i have Anyway, here's hoping the cramps taper off and you can feel at least MARGINALLY more comfortable for these last few weeks.

Yeah well, something is going on...I'm losing lots of pluggy stuff and am having cramps on and off and nice shooting pains in my cervix...so, at least things are getting ready. I kind of go back and forth from being totally ready to meet this little guy and totally mourning the loss of DDs "one and only" status...having one already (especially a toddler who makes time fllllyyyy with her constant hooliganism) makes it easier to wait for the second, I'm finding.

I absolutely felt EXACTLY that way when I was pregnant the second time. I was virtually grieving the loss of my time alone with dd (only 14 months at the time!)... I was in no real rush... I would have gladly gone longer that time. DS had other plans.... This time around, i'm so uncomfortable i feel so ssick all the time. It's really wearing on me and what kind of mom i am.. I actually think my kids will get more of me once this lil one makes her world debut. If it makes u feel any better, the beginning isn't too bad, in my experience... DS spent most of his time in a sling so i could still chase dd around and be the mom i wanted to be... It didn't get too hard till he started walking... and then running... Anyway, good luck to you! Your lil one will arrive when he's good and ready, which will be soon enough no matter what

I am all set up and ready to go....I've got my moby, my other sligy and just picked up a panut shell snuggly fleece pocket sling for easy set up and go BWing...so, I will be taking full advantage of BW and I really think it will be fine. DD LOVED/loves to be worn.

Well, I was woken from a dead sleep at 3am with more cramping...this morning had a few little rushes that I was sort of movin' and rockin' through...so, good things are happening, moving in the right direction in any case!

GL to you as well...we'll both be holding them before we know it!

Just wondering how you're doing today

What about your water intake? Did you try drinking lots of water to see if it would stop? Dehydration can bring on strong painful cramping and contractions even when it's too early.

Hope things are better or at least progressing by now

Sorry about my being away for a couple of days...I was having TONS of trouble getting in MDC...don't know if anyone else was??

Things have pretty much persisted the way they have been...so, you know, it stinks to be feeling so crappy and crampy and achy, but I'm choosing to look at it in a more positive light...at least this means my body is doing lots to prepare me for labor and it will probably be nice and quick and easy!

I'm anticipating "fast as a rocket" labor anyhow seeing as DD was a literal bullet (I'm telling you, when she came out, she was SO FAST) so....that thought eases my mind when I start feeling sorry for myself about all this cramping, etc...

My water intake is good...I definitely looked there first for reasons for all this cramping and rushes...I really just think my body is gearing up....

21 days til my guess date...so, I figure, worst case scenario, I've got another month of my body preparing...so, okay...I can deal with that.

In two weeks, can someone please remind me that I said that!

Well, for me, (note: I had a horrid less than ideal mainstream first birth), they lasted for a week until I was induced via pitocin.
