do you know of any AP friendly, Catholic book? I am looking for some catholic parenting inspiration

I really liked the book Parenting With Grace

What about Dr Sears book on Christian parenting. He and his wife were raised Catholic, I believe, and drifted away to another denomination, and recently have returned to the Catholic Church. The book was written before that, but I think you would find the parenting advice inside very much in line with both AP and Catholic viewpoints.

I have a little old-fashioned prayer book called "The Mother's Manual." It is 100% AP and GD. Those prayers have given me strength through some tough times as a mother.

I agree with this suggestion.

Boy did I read your post wrong. I thought you said NFP instead of AP. I was um what does parenting with grace have to do with NFP, LOL.

Greg Popcak is apparently very pro-AP, but also claims the Church "indirectly" teaches that children should be spaced no closer than 3 years apart or you're not being a responsible parent and that the Church wants us all to space our children like this and blah blah blah. So I ignore him, but I know other AP moms that like him.

And I second Sears

"Breastfeeding and Catholic Motherhood" by Sheila M. Kippley is great. It talks about the beauty of keeping the baby close, extended breastfeeding, and full-time mothering. She talks about how AP (basically) leads to a deeper spiritual life for the mother and provides the best for the mother/child. Lots of good quotes from JPII too. I never realized how "catholic" AP parenting was until I rad this book. I don't think she specifically uses the term AP parenting, but that pretty much what she is taling about.

Wow. That came out jumbled! You get the point though- good book!

book

yes, I have read breastfeeding and catholic mothering. Love that book. I too did not see how ap was so catholic. I am a recovering babywise mama. All my friends do babywise (sADLY I GAVE THEM ALL THE BOOK) I changed my view, while preg. with bababy number 2. baby #1 was a "great sleeper" but at whay cost. He was a very happy baby, when he was awake. But the last year he seems distant. so I have made some huge changes. The fact that baby #2 still doesn't "sleep through the night" is so new to me. I don't mind at all that i still wake up to feed him. I love having him near me all night and so does my husband. We are happier parents and we have a happier family.

For inspiration purposes, this book is awesome. Even just the first section is great motivation for putting in the extra effort and utilizing our graces to parent. Even DH read it and agreed.

they did! I was just looking up Popcak last night and the Sears' wrote the forward for the new edition of Parenting with Grace. I found it with a little google searching - it's basically their testimony. Loved it!

Dh and I were really excited to see it because when we were reading about AP and specifically the Sears books, we kept thinking how in line with Catholic Teaching & specifically Theology of the Body it was. Well, Sears talks about that in the Foreward.

Love it! Can't wait to get the book.
