Dog repellant?

So my mom moved into her house about 9 months ago and has had dog poop problems that are getting worse. She does not know who the culprits are, but they poop at the base of her driveway and near her mailbox and on the parking strip across the street. We have all stepped in poop more than once... their owners do not scoop the poop, even though this is a nice residential neighborhood.

Is there something we can do to repel these dogs? What would work best to stop this?

If it's her property and somewhere the other people/dogs have no business being on, perhaps a motion-sensored sprinkler or alarm?

One of my biggest pet peeves-I think not picking up your dog's poop is a violation of the social contract!!

Here are some natural ideas using ammonia or vinegar to discourage dogs:

She might also try setting up a low fence on her boundary line to keep dogs and people off her property.

Not sure what she can really do about the parking strip across the street.

Her yard is fenced, but the end of the driveway and the area where the mailbox is are not. The poop is essentially on the easement area where the city could widen the streets or whatever, but it is her "space" IYKWIM. I don't think she can add fencing around it, or add sprinklers. She is retired and I don't think she wants to spend that kind of money either.

I'm going to forward the link to the natural dog repellents to her - maybe some of those will work. We could treat the parking strip too then.

thanks for the replies. If anyone has actually tried any of the natural repellents on the link (chili pepper, vinegar, ammonia) I'd love to hear how it worked.

Is there any way to set up a veideo camera? I'm pretty sure in some areas it's actually illegal to not scoop, in addition to just plain being very rude!!
