Can You Help Me Brainstorm?

I need some suggestions on how to let my ds know when it's time to nurse at night.

Background: He's 2.5 and has always been a ferocious nurser. He had reflux until he was 1.5 so he had a rough start on sleeping anyway. Up until about 3 weeks ago, ds would nurse constantly throughout the night. And it's been that way forever. He's never slept through the night or anything close! At first, we started out telling him he needed to sleep at night and that he could nurse when the sun came out. After about 3 days of that, we started this loooong rainy period where the sun never comes out! So he would wake up anytime between 3-5am and want to nurse. He doesn't cry about it, and he'll often drink milk from his cup, but he also doesn't go back to sleep for 2 hours! I tried nursing him at that point, but immediately the next night, he would be back to waking several times a night because he wanted to nurse. Sigh.

So what I need is a way, a sign, a signal, that I can point to and say, "no, it's not time to nurse yet", or "hey, it's time to nurse". Something that he can hear or see, himself.

Any ideas?

I'm going to set up at little nightlight on a timer, and when the light is on it's time to - whatever. For us it's about moving the nursing to the rocking chair in the ams, since 20 month old ds likes to thrash around on the breast for AGES while waking up. But you could use it to signal anything, of course. There's also a super cute nightlight/ clock you could buy, that someone else recently posted about...

That clock is so cool! Too bad it's kinda pricey! I DO have a timer though, I'll try that. Thanks!
