Our Baby Boy Arrived!

Thread Starter
He was born october 23rd at 6:49pm, 8 lb 10 oz, 19.5 in long. 14 hour first labor at a home birth in someone elses home. We are both healthy and doing great even though he inhaled a little meconium and i have a 1.5 degree tear (that feels like it will never go away). Will post my birth story later.

On another topic i have to vent a little bit because i am so surprised by my mom. She drove 14 hours yesterday to stay and "help" for two weeks and we were all excited but when she got here i asked her if she would change shirts and wash her hands before she held him since she smokes(very politely), and she left. She said we were judging her, disrespecting her, that we were ridiculous and crazy, and were we never going to take him anywhere because exhaust is bad too. She actually took all her stuff back to the car and drove the 14 hours home! I guess thats better than staying here and stressing us out. I'm kind of glad that i don't have to worry about the smoke issue now, since i am highly sensitive to it(makes me feel sick like i have a cold) and i would worry about the baby. I just really didn't expect for her to feel that way i guess.

thanks for reading!

Welcome Earthside Little boy! Sorry to hear about your mom. Like you need drama after giving birth! Yikes!

Wow! good news!

I'm sorry about your mom too, but you're right - if that was her attitude, it's a really good thing she went home. Probably would have caused a lot of undue stress if she stayed! Wow...a 14 hour drive too!! Crazy!!

Wow, sounds like my MIL. I think some new grandparents have issues, cause it's a life change for them, too. I really do.

Congratulations!!

I'm sorry about your mom. My mom did something weird like that after I had DD. It really bugged me and was hard to deal with. The strange thing is she acted weird after my sister had her son a few months ago. I started wondering if it was her way of dealing with her "babies" growing up and becoming mother's themselves. Either way it was hard to deal with. Hopefully she'll come around when she's in a better place and help you out.

Congrats on your baby boy and a speedy recovery to you, too!

Sorry about your mom, though. Hopefully the 14-hour drive gave her some time to think and to wish she would have responded differently to the situation. Your request was in no way unreasonable!!
