What do you do with your five minutes?

Mornings are usually a bit crazy - I need to feed the baby and get dd#1 her breakfast and try to feed myself a bit too before getting #1 to school. Not to mention getting everyone dressed and trying to find something with a non-elastic waistband for myself to wear. Anyway, this morning I was able to put the baby down for five minutes and I found myself micro-prioritizing, in other words I had to decide whether to make my hot cereal or go poop.

I have found that I can put the baby down for longer and longer stretches now without her getting upset, but I do notice that I'm always prioritizing tasks because my time with two hands available is so minimal.

Is everyone doing this and how are you handling it? What are you doing with your five minutes?

shower. my lo is pretty content on her floor gym for about 15 minutes, especially if my older dd is talking to her, but she really likes to be held while sleeping during the day. i can do most things with her in the sling/bjorn/moby, but pumping is tough, so i try to do that or shower.

I get a little bit more time since I have a teenager in the house that loves holding the baby. In fact, she's gonna be spoiled because one of the three of us is always holding her. But when she is fussy or just wants to be rocked to sleep or cuddle of course she's all mine. I can be pretty selfish with my baby girl. So my extra time is usually spent on going to the potty, cleaning something or eating.

I know! Isn't it ridiculous? The question is whether to put food in or let it out. Lol.

OMG- I had this exact thought tonight. Got her settled into the bouncy chair and she was very happy and smiling and talking....stood up and walked three steps to the kitchen to work on cutting veggies, stopped, walked towards the curtains to close them, stopped bc I remembered I needed to poop and went and did that instead. I thanked myself too when she started crying while I was going potty....so at least I got that done alone

I find myself having to decide the very same thing! It depends on the day, but pooping definitely takes priority if I have to go!

DH has learned that if the baby is sleeping and dinner is on the table, we need to all get in there and eat NOW before he wakes, lol. Dinnertime is one of the few things we get to do as a family these days.

Whenever mine naps on his own I usually can be found literally RUNNING around the house desperately trying to get as much done as I can lol

yep, im in that boat, it's eat, shower or poop. usually eating really really quickly and then showering.

remember that episode of Seinfeld where Kramer makes everything in the shower? he even has a garbage disposal installed in the drain! that seems like a good idea, eating while showering. haha

I know exactly what episode you're talking about!!

I just told my mom the other day that God should give moms another set of arms with each baby, because we multi-task to the extreme!!

In my 5 minutes I usually quickly sweep the floor (two dogs, two cats, three boys, and hardwood floors...not a good combo!!), load or unload the dishwasher, switch over laundry, and maybe throw some food at my two older kids. I shower and poop when hubby is home usually!! If I have to shower or poop when he's not home, I put Gavin in his carseat and bring him in the bathroom with me. He likes the sound of the shower, so usually I'm good for at least a 10 minute shower!!

I learned to poop holding the LO, cause when I gotta go, I can't wait for him to be content.

So when he sleeps, I'm trying to do diaper laundry (I won't carry him down the stairs, they're too rickety, particularly with the high winds we've been having), dishes, or get dinner cooked.

In the few seconds he lets me put him down awake... usually 30-90 seconds, I'm rummaging for food or fixing his next bottle.

wow, i have it good in this department! although sam is a bit older so i am thinking that i just have made it past this point of not being able to get anything done.

although in the thick of it i remember thinking and people do this with more than one child?? wow, they've got skills!

Love, love that episode. Dh actually eats in the shower. So odd...and he brushes his teeth in the shower too.

brush teeth, check email, then get about halfway into making tea or something before being "hailed".
