And boy do I suck! does this get better or is this one of those things that if you will be good at it it should show from the beginning. I missed some loops and all in all my first couple lines look REALLLLLLY sorry. advice?

You'll get much better at it. It takes a little while. I'm still new-ish, but what I knit looks a million times better than one I did the first week or so. I used to end up with both extra stitches (so my scarf got wider at the end) and dropped stitches like crazy -- looked pretty awful!

My DD, age 8 learned when I did. she would have a tangled mess in the beginning, but now she does really well.

Keep trying.

Trust me, it'll get much better/easier/faster/nicer looking with practice. My first FO looks like a 2 year old did it compared to the ones I do now, and even they aren't great. But I have seen so much progress made in the way my stuff looks and how quickly I am able to finish things too, w00t! Keep at it!

Hang in with it. You'll look up in a month or 2 and realize how much skill you've developed.

And you'll be addicted.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

My first scarf got thinner and thinner as it went, hard to do, but somehow I managed it. My stitches were also ridiculous, some were huge, some tight. Don't worry, you will get better very quickly and soon it will be like riding a bike! Oh, and welcome to the club!!!!!!

Definitely something that needs practice to perfect.

you

yeah, getting narrower is a really common thing to happen.

My friend learned crocheting and tried making a scarf 5 times. Finally, on try 5, she just made it starting on a long edge. (like if you were knitting that way, you'd cast on like 200 stitches and knit 30 rows )

yeah

Yes you get way better.

When I 1st started it was so awkward! I noticed the other day that I'm knitting very quickly now.

Congratulations ! It will get better, and it will get addicting. There are times where I just *HAVE* to knit something, anything. I think it helps clear out the mind as well.

Good luck!

K that makes me feel better cause I'm usually the type if I don't seem to take to something quickly I give up and I am definately not taking to this very well.... but I will try to push on!!!
