High dose EPA fish oil is one of the things on my list for dd to try (yes her pdoc is aware and even suggested the proper dose which is in line with what I read online). She won't take the pills so I just opened one up to see what it smelled/tasted like and OMG, that is NASTY. My first thought was OJ because that can hide just about anything but thats not an option for her so what can I hide this stuff in? I need to mask both taste and smell.

The Carlson lemon flavor was totally acceptable to my kids from a spoon. The chewables may be okay, too (I've never tried them).
We have since moved away from Carlson's because they add some synthetic vitamins to their oil and we now use Dr. Ron's Blue Ice; the cinnamon flavor is ok (especially if your kids are already used to having to take CLO).
Have you considered High Vitamin Butter Oil to complement the CLO? The affect is supposedly synergistic (from what I understand Vitamin A needs Vitamin D to be properly utilized, and Vitamin D needs K2, which is found naturally in the butter oil). Some kids tend to get a lot of nose bleeds with the CLO alone because of the high vitamin D in HVCLO and the lack of K2.

But I bet your suggestion would be very helpful to lots of mamas who need it for general health though
For mental health issues its a bit different in dosing

Satori: I hadn't heard about the EPA/DHA ratio before. What's the science behind that? I'm curious, because I'm supplementing with fish oil for myself (for bipolar) and for ds (for ADHD). Nordic Naturals sells a peach flavoured oil that's great for kids, but probably doesn't have the ratio you're looking for.
My suggestion would be a smoothie of some type (frozen berries, yogurt, and maybe a touch of stevia or honey?). But, yeah, orange juice might do the trick. I know some people who mix flax seed oil into scrambled eggs (after cooking) or drizzle it on toast, but if the content of the capsules smell/taste that bad, then it might not work.
Good luck!
Also, does she have a sunrise alarm clock or light therapy unit? The more I read, the more I find real connections between bipolar and circadian rhythm issues. Just a thought.

I agree on the circadian rhythm issue but no she doesn't have the light/lamp. Its on the list of things to try when we have the money, neither is cheap to try.
