Getting Poop off handknit wool

I love my wool covers I've made, they handle wetness fantastically, but I hate trying to get the poop off them when the diaper leaks. Part of the problem is the yarn I used felts a little too easily, and so I always wind up with a felty spot wherever the poop was. I'm thinking the next covers I make I will semi felt on purpose. Anyway, how do you get poop off your handknit covers? How do you avoid having a big yellow stain leftover even after you've washed off the poop?

I've learned the hard way to wash the poop right away before it has a chance to dry. And I've knit darker covers to keep the stains away. I also use the cheaper wool (Lion Brand Fisherman's wool and Patons), so my pants always felt just from the baby wearing them and running around. But the felting makes the cover oh so water proof! I never lanolize my covers anymore. And I love the shorties (that started out as capris last spring) so much that instead of knitting pants for winter, I just put long socks on her.

Are you using a wool soap? I have wool wash bars of soap from
sudz and dudz- emmayanaturals.com/index.php?cPath=24
and wool wash from Ewe Need It- hyenacart.com/EweNeedIt
I've had good luck with both of them, for really big jobs I use Ecover delicates detergent or sometimes dish soap (gets wool squeaky clean but also strips it)

I use baby wash to clean...I used fishermans wool too, so it felted. Its cheap though and the pattern I used takes me all of two days to make. As for stains...well mine are pretty yellow around the legs. I just don't worry about it. They have a job to do. Looking pretty is a bonus.
