Don't be embarrassed.... this is just life and financial problems are a part of it. I am so happy you and your midwife are able to work something out!

I'm glad you were able to work something out with your midwife.

I can completely understand, as we've had our own share of financial difficulties with paying for this homebirth. We had become almost certain our insurance would cover half (this was confirmed by the insurance company). So we had planned for that. Then they started giving us the completely opposite line, that homebirth was not covered at all. I had a few weeks of complete stress and emotional breakdowns.
We are paying our midwife half the fee through our FSA account (still waiting for that to process....ugh). And she is comfortable waiting until delivery to go ahead with billing the insurance to see if anything comes of it......I'm trying not to think about that part until we have to.

Just trying to let it go and enjoy preparing for the birth. I hope now you can do the same.

We are in a similar boat. It is so frustrating to me that we have medical insurance and it is such an uphill battle to get hb coverage. If we were covered, our financial stress around this birth would be almost nil, but hence it is not (at least so far) and pulling $3500 out of budget plus doula plus birth classes is extremely difficult. I'm glad your midwife is working with you. I hope ours will as well.
