I need a new hat, but can't find the right pattern

I've made 2 hats and they're just not right for me. I made the Meret and the Starcrossed slouchy beret. I only knit and even basic crocheting is difficult for me.

I want something warm to wear when outside playing in the snow with kids, but I want it to be nice looking and somewhat stylish. I want a hat that's warm and I feel good wearing. It would be better if if could cover my ears for the times when it's really cold. Anyone have any ideas of the perfect hat for me?

Welcome to my hat queue! Second one is a headband, but super cute, imho.

eta - I made http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/spring-beret but didn't switch needle sizes. It fits more like a stocking hat and covers my ears.

I just made that for my mom for xmas. I quite liked how it turned out and it was very quick to make with the chunky yarn.

Here's a very simple hat that's a little different because of the seed stitch brim: Basic Adult Hat
